For a whopping two units, you must pay for a required textbook, pay for online proctoring, and complete 5+ 20-30min assignments a week. Two units, you guys. I don't know how this is allowed. There is far too much work for a useless class that does not fulfill any requirements. I regret taking this but I am graduating.

She gives a lot of weekly assignments and quizzes that you must complete for a good grade. You must attend in class lectures to really get a good grade as well. If you do not show up or slack off then you will not get a good grade. She is also not a good lecturer and really does not teach well. All she does is talk about how she used to play bball.

Slade has to be one of the worst professors at UCSB, she likes to speak to students like children. She doesn't seem to have a clue what she assigned and what she didn't. For an UD elective, the workload is ridiculous considering there isn't even an associated major. Read the book, skip the lectures, or just don't take anything with Dr. Slade.

She cares about attendance which is weird given that she teaches adults; must be a power thing. However... the class was easy and informative. I hope her son is doing well. You get the opportunity to learn from his bad habits.

Speaks very fast in lectures. Lots of reading and weekly quizzes, but they're for credit, not graded, so that is good. No extra credit, no curves, you get the grade you earned from doing the work all quarter or not. Weekly participation forums in class. Overall, do the work, be present, and you will do well.

Class is super interesting but a lot of work for a 3 unit class. Two exams 75pts each, final paper (research) 100pts. Weekly participation assignments that total 100pts and easy hw assignments worth 100pts (can re do q until you get 100). Do NOT take this class if you hate bio or if you are looking for an easy A!!! Personally really enjoyed it :)

Posted videos lack organization and clarity. One posted "lecture" was a 38 minute audio recording from class a previous quarter. Material is intuitive, and no real implications from course content other than "you should exercise"

This class is harder and more work than you think for UD elective. Weekly discussion posts, quizzes, and you have to turn in your lecture notes for participation. A TON of reading as well. Does Not go into detail on her slides at all, I can learn better by reading the book alone. Tests are proctored online at terrible times (weekends) as well.

Dr. Slade is definitely passionate about the topic of sports psychology, but it's a lot of work for an elective class. Weekly quizzes, discussions, a writing assignment, and a huge paper is A LOT for someone that just needed some extra UD credit. If you have a passion for exercise it's worth it, but be prepared to work.

She is very nice, but the workload is super excessive, especially for a class that's only worth 3 units. I would not take this course again. The quizzes are extensive as well as the lectures and the amount of information you need to know is also broad. A nice woman but this class is way too much work for it's worth.

Professor Slade has been nothing but impressive, and I would retake her and recommend her courses. Her courses are easy to understand, organized, straightforward, and she is genuinely a fantastic professor and wants the best for all her students. If you do the readings and watch the lectures, you will do well in the course! 10/10 recommend.

Dr. Slade's classes were some of my absolute favorite at UCSB. She is very enthusiastic about the subjects she teaches and genuinely cares about student well-being. For the paper, I recommend emailing the students she has as TAs and then talking with her. There are opportunities for students to get more involved in the ESS program too.
