The teacher likes to comment things and countries, which is a little bit rude and arbitrary for me. He likes to show the economic data and graph. But they are not helpful at all. In general,I prefer econ 1 teacher's style.

Econ is definitely not my strong suit. However I needed this as pre-major requirement. Rupert is a cool guy and definitely keeps it real. He worked for the Federal Reserves in Chicago which is interesting. Not an easy class, but definitely better than Econ 1. GO TO SECTION.

Super clear lectures and expectations, practice tests give a good idea of what the real ones are like. TA was completely useless but if you go to class and work hard enough the curve doesn't really matter. The textbook is kind of helpful and some test questions are directly from it. The podcasts are terrible you can probably spend your time better.

bring your clicker the very first day cuz it counts for points. this class is tough. professors legit. don't buy the textbook and don't go to sections. all the info u need is lectures, hw, and practice tests. good luck

smart guy, helpful. you don't need to buy the textbook, just use his readings and wiki for what you cant find. the curve is the curve, but the material is easy.

Prof Rupert is a very intelligent man, who will definitely teach you a lot about Economics. However, his class often is very different from his tests. He lectures a lot about what is happening today in the field which is interesting, but often confusing when the basics are not explained too well. Class mandatory because of iclicker, read the book!

This Professor is excellent and is extremely credentialed in the field of economics. He knows his stuff and you will get a quality education from him. I see some students on here gave poor marks on him. I disagree completely. He is a nice guy but his tests are difficult so you have to study hard but your in a UC so what do you expect!

Very challenging class. Lectures do not really help with exams, they just give some context and use current events to show concepts in action. I didn't put in too much effort, went to every class and did all the readings and got a C.

I like the professor's personality but he wasn't that great of a teacher. His lectures were very different then stuff on the homework and test. Going to section helped the most. The multiple choice tests are very tricky. I did a TON of studying and barely passed the class. Don't take this class unless you need it.

HORRIBLE teacher. he doesnt go into depth about anything, he takes the easy way out then asks the hardest iclickers some of which he has never taught us the material to know the answers. just dont ever take him. especially if u want to be an econ major

AVOID HIM AT ALL COST. Studied day and night for his midterm, and final, and the only result I could get was only a D. I can't express how much stress his class gives. The homework is impossible to do alone and the only highest grade most people got from him was a C or lower in the end. Don't take him, even if you are desperate.

SLAVED OVER MY C- went to EVERY lecture & still got 67% on iclicker which is 5% of overall grade(ridiculous). did EVERY hw assignment(impossible questions) test are RIDICULOUSLY hard. class avg on final was 68% i think my C- was a mercy killing bc i def bombed all my test. class is meant to weed out ECON majors but the rest of us suffer miserably.

Class wasn't too difficult but definitely get the text. Rupert lectures interesting topics but most aren't closely related with homework or midterm/final material. Learn on own or with good section/CLAS teacher. Iclicker questions were okay. Fair exams but once again, econ department curve still sucks.

Got C in class. Studied all day, all night. Put in a lot of effort. This is actually my strength in economics, but tests graded unfairly. TAs = useless, unhelpful. Put in 200% work for a C.

The iClicker question were very ridiculous and annoying. If it were not for the iClickers, lecture would be virtually useless. There are topics covered in lecture, though, that are not covered in the book. However, if you study through practice tests and understanding the questions asked and the answers to them, you will do fine.

Brilliant guy, really, though he asks the most difficult of IClicker questions. As for the grading, the class runs on the competitive department-wide grading curve. Pretty interesting, as he's always going over current events in the world. Don't take if not required for your major.

He is a very sharp professor who knows virtually everything about the field of macroeconomics. However he asks insanely hard I-clicker questions, and the curving is a real pain. Study hard and you can probably end up with a B. No offense to Professor Rupert or anyone but this was the class that made me realize I no longer want to be an econ major

Amazing professor with a great ability to apply theory to real-times real-world macro data and trends, as well as those in the past. After having a few 1 on 1's with him, he clearly is avidly on top of developing macro data in today's world. Highly recommend him and the class!

Rupert certainly knows his stuff and his lectures are very easy to follow if you've done the reading ahead of time. Grading is a pain though: iclicker questions are hard and count for 5% of your grade, and your grades depend on your standing which can be annoying if you get 90% on a exam but end up with a B.

Rupert is an okay teacher. He has some iclicker questions that are super tricky, but they're 5% of your grade so it's pretty important to get as many right. Sections are pretty useless for this class. None of them helped and they're not mandatory at all. Freebees in mid term and final but they're some tricky questions. Dont underestimate this class

Hated Rupert. He seems personable at first, but he asks ridiculously hard iclicker questions that count for accuracy. The tests are difficult too. Not a fan.

really boring lecturer, but you can tell he knows his stuff since he worked at the fed. loves the bls, be prepared to memorize unemployment statistics if you want to do well on the iclickers.

First of all, if you're considering taking this class as a GE, don't. It's a class meant to weed out people, and the curve is not a joke. 5% of the class get's an A. If you're willing to go to every lecture, read, and study pretty hard for each exam, you can definitely get a B minimum.
