Subject matter is interesting,Prof is intelligent, understandable, and funny. There is a lot of reading which can add up and take a lot of time. Make sure to outline/study test questions he posts online bc his test questions are almost verbatim if not close to it.
Not hard if you just try a little in the class. There's a lot of reading for the class, and i sorta struggled keeping up with it. I personally think that reading is more important than attending his lecture... not that he's a bad lecturer, just the test was based a lot on the readings.
there was too much reading involved. Although some of the topics were interesting, it's hard to keep up with the readings. I saw myself struggle thru the quarter for this one class, the amount you hafta read for this class increases thruout the quarter....... i hated this class
Reading is a bit much, but not excessive. The material was intersting to an Asian American person such as myself. The test weren't too difficult for me, but they weren't a pushover either. Pay attention in lecture and keep up with the readings in order to succeed in the class. Park: quality teacher.
Great professor. His classes touched many racial and injustice problems. It's understandable why there are some ignorant and closed minded people disliked them.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!
His exams are pretty easy... Very intelligent man, but like other reviews said.. HE GIVES ALOT OF READING.
This class is rather boring but it has interesting topics. The amount of reading he gives is kind of ridiculous.
Makes the class very interesting. Connects with students by giving real life examples. Very helpful outside class. Very nice guy as well, he's willing to change your grade if you're willing to give a good explanation why.
This class is very boring...he is boring...he thinks hes not boring...but it is very easy...if u can get passed the lecture...
Professor Park may have a tough teaching style, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. The readings can be overwhelming, but resources like Unstuckstudy and study sessions make it manageable. Overall, an engaging class worth taking.
I swear, it feels like he's doing everything in his power to make you drop his class. He's passionate, but it's overshadowed by his dedication to intimidating students. John acts like his lessons are tougher than rocket science. Instead of motivating students to learn, he seems to do the opposite, creating a discouraging environment for students.
Professor Park is an exceedingly empathetic, kind, knowledgable, and caring human being. He explains things wonderfully and is always open to comments/questions. As long as you attend class and listen to his lectures you will be fine. I highly recommend him for any student at UCSB.
Professor Park is sorta like a father figure. He is genuine, smart, deeply passionate about what he does, and is always willing to help you if you need it. If you go to class and at least skim the readings, you shouldn't have trouble passing the class. If you want an A, he makes you WORK for it and with 40 academic readings, it can be overwhelming
professor park is one of the best professors. he created comfortable and calm class atmosphere. I enjoyed his lectures even though I dislike history. class only has 3 exams that make up your grade. lots of reading assigned and I did not read at all and studied 1-2 days before the 3 exams and I got a B and I am very satisfied for effort I put in.
Mr. Park's lectures are always fascinating, even when he goes on tangents about his own experiences or about fun facts. Assigns a lot of reading, so beware. Exams are blue book essays which are graded tough, but fairly. Overall I would recommend Mr. Park's classes for the lecture content. Also, he is very accessible outside of class, appreciated!
Professor Park is my favorite professor at our school. His lectures and presentations are perfect and he loves to ask the class to give personal thoughts on the subject. He is definitely my favorite professor on campus. The readings were lengthy but if you attend lecture, you should do great. He loves it when students attend office hours.
Professor Park is the best professor I've ever had! He cares so much about his students, is extremely understanding and adaptable, and asks thoughtful, honest questions. He grades really fairly and lectures in a way that really tells a story. I took this class to fulfill a Global Studies requirement and was shocked by how much I loved it.
Park made it seem like this class was easy, but it wasn't. The readings were hard to get through, and that's saying something since i'm an avid reader. I recommend going to every office hour and ask him detailed questions about the essay prompts.
My favorite class freshman year. Attended all lectures because what he discussed was fascinating to me. A lot of readings, but the readings are the keys to doing well on essay midterms. I recommend seeing the TAs and asking them to clarify the reading. Overall, a great class!
hard,hard,hard...lecture were useless, 4 books you need to read. Exam based on the material from the books not his lecture.not willing to answer your questions just asked you to read books...
loved my classes with him. very intelligent and office hours really help to drive at what is important in class. great professor! DO the readings!
Great class, Park is a great lecturer and continuely made the class interesting. Quite a bit of reading, but it really helps if you comprehend it for the midterms and final.
Such a dork, but a really nice guy. He's willing to help you if you need it, but you probably won't. Really clear and interesting lectures. Kinda a lot of reading, but it's all really interesting. I enjoyed the class a lot more than I thought I would.
