Mechanical Engineering - ME

Applies the principles of fluid mechanics and transport phenomena to major biological systems, in particular the human body. The course focuses on physiologically relevant flow and transport phenomena from an engineering perspective. Topics covered include blood flow in the cardiovascular system, air flow in the respiratory system, transport processes in joints, and how abnormal fluid mechanics relates to disease. Addresses the rheology of complex fluids, flow through elastic tubes, and transport in porous media. Simple numerical models will be used in the course.

Prerequisites: Consent of instructor.
