We recognize nature when we see it, yet trying to describe it leads to vexing questions. What separates nature from human-made artifacts? Is nature always 'good' and the 'organic' always better? This seminar will read and discuss historical and contemporary Western accounts of nature, the natural, and their possible opposites.
