Interdisciplinary - INT

Chronic pain, a debilitating condition affecting one in five adults, surpasses cancer and heart disease in cost. This seminar explores device-based solutions to reverse the neuroplastic changes that contribute to chronic pain. It will explore existing and new opportunities for designing and building these devices and training systems that can help. We’ll present devices used in 9 studies that, combined with incentive and education, significantly reduced pain and increased function. Our research on brain organoids reveals neural patterns similar to those in chronic pain, suggesting potential targets for new devices.

Prerequisites: Enrollment in Letters and Science Honors Program.
