INT 187AQ - Language Lost & Language Found: Decompositions of Music & Text
In this Discovery Seminar, we investigate how expressive communication in music and language can be heightened even as meaning becomes elusive through post structural and deconstructive theories. We examine manipulations of sound and language to discover how innovative compositions can elicit exciting interpretive possibilities. After an introduction to post-structural theories, we explore how musicians and poets engage with defeminization. The seminar culminates in original student works engaging with sound, language, and signification in unique ways. Students of all disciplines are welcome!
