Communication - COMM

To be able to communicate across intercultural contexts is not only an essential life skill but also an ethical obligation. Globalization provides opportunities and challenges to effective intercultural communication. In an era where the line between “our” and “other” cultures is rapidly disappearing, moving, and changing, learning how globalization processes shape our communication and cultural practices is a key element of a liberal arts education. In this course, we explore the interconnections between communication, culture, and globalization. We will define and critique differing visions of globalization and reflect on how communication can be a tool for social justice in a global world.

Prerequisites: Not open to freshmen.
