Introductory course in use of finite elements to solve analytical and design problems. Topics include: theoretical basics, finite element discretization (modes, elements); interpolating polynomials; applications to elasticity problems, heat transfer/irrotational fluid flow; isoparametric formulation, practical considerations in modeling, interpretation of results using fem codes. Recommended Prep: ME 15 and ME 167.
