Disability studies is an inter-disciplinary field of study, and this course emphasizes writing practices across disciplines. As such, the course provides analysis and practice of writing that promotes equity for people with disabilities and provides a critique of ableist discourse. Readings in disability studies, include personal narratives, manifestos, policy statements, and sociological studies, will provide students with models for producing their own academic, personal, legal, and political documents. The overall objective of the course is to engage students with the experience and identity of a traditionally marginalized group that consists of 13% of the U.S. population.

CollegeLiterally read my draft out loud, told me to redo a draft three times, and got mad when he read a draft and read my mistakes out loud during class. The draft was like five pages. Dropped his class cause he was being unreasonable. Would avoid taking this professor. He is condescending and rambles about how he "inspired" a doctor to become a writer.
Passive aggressive professor. He does not have a rubric that he refers to when grading.
Passive aggressive like an angry kid lol. assignments are peer-reviewed, and students give conflicting advice so you have to sort that out yourself. He does not give feedback until after submission... and feedback is not very constructive when he gives it. (An actual comment i got was to "never do this again" for one grammar mistake?)
Definitely knows his stuff and will improve most students' writing if his teaching style works for you; also teaches how to manage one's responsibilities during hardships which is great. Unfortunately has an ego and seems to let his emotions get the best of him at times (often passive aggressive; sometimes unresponsive, kinda like an angry kid )
Donelan was a really great professor. He made the class go smoothly and quickly. This was not one of those courses where you are constantly fighting your sleep. He is a fairly tough grader, but the review process leading up to the submission should be enough to get you a good grade. Definitely recommend the course.
Professor Donelan is an Incredible lecturer and surely one of my favorite professors Ive had at UCSB. Overall my experience in Writ 2 was amazing and would 100% recommend taking his class! :)
