Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the most common method used to quantify the potential environmental impacts of products or services over their entire life cycle, i.e., production, use, and end of life, or cradle to grave. It is widely used across the world by companies and consultancies, as well as governmental and non-governmental agencies. An introduction to LCA according to ISO 14044, also called the ‘gold standard’ for life cycle assessment. Covers LCA theory and practice in equal parts and includes a student LCA project for hands-on learning. LCA is a quantitative method, which requires fluency in arithmetic and basic algebra.
