Our state is one of the world’s most represented settings across the arts. It has appeared countless times in literature, film, TV, music, and the visual arts. What do these works suggest about our home state? How is California represented, and what does that say about both the location and the artist? In this seminar, students explore California through poems and stories, movies and TV, music, painting, and more. In the process, we analyze how others view the Golden State, and how we, here in Santa Barbara, do the same.

CollegeProf Krut has been my favorite professor so far at UCSB! His assignments were helpful outside of the classroom. (Resume, cover letter, email, tact letter) and a final business group project. He really cares about his students and gives very meaningful feedback. Would take the class again and the workload was manageable and I enjoyed his lectures.
Very fun class with interesting papers. Gives great feedback on papers and is very inspirational.
Such a fun class best professor ever. He is super caring and the work is reasonable
Class is graded on participation and three essays. The three essays are the three different units for the class and a lot of consideration is put into the classwork done to help prepare you for the essays. He gives amazing feedback to help you grow as a writer. Even as an 8am class, he brought in amazing energy to keep you entertained.
Someone else said to take Krut even if he teaches an 8 am and I agree, he is awesome he would always let us out early and the assignments were super doable, he was amazing
Krut was a great professor. Super upbeat, helpful, and understanding.
