CollegeHe is a good lecturer with an incredible understanding of the material. The class isn't particularly difficult and his lectures are thorough, but if you really want an A or A+ you really need to do all the readings as well as show up to class. The readings will usually take between one and two hours to complete but are definitely worth it for the A
DO NOT TAKE AFRICAN HISTORY, unless you really love Africa. This class is sooooo much reading and its very boring. DO NO RECOMMEND
Professor Miescher is one of the nicest faculty members you'll ever interact with at UCSB but unfortunately this class was just not managed or structured well. The TAs run the class for him outside of when he's lecturing and the weekly discussions were not managed well and were very awkward for me. Lots of surprise in class assignments too.
If you pay attention during section and understand the main points of the lectures you will do well. He truly wants you to succeed and gives a list of essay questions that will be on the midterm and final, which makes it easy to study. There are a lot of assigned reading but isn't necessary. In-class assignments once a week so make sure to attend.
Nice guy and very approachable, I just didn't find the lectures very engaging. He knows his content really well but my TA was alright and prof wasn't very clear with anything in class. Surprise writing and pop quizzes which absolutely can tank your grade if you're not careful.
He's lit hella easy
