A focus on Asian American queer theory from the lived experiences, histories, and activisms of queer Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. From the colonial era and formations of war and imperialism to modern pop culture, it explores ‘Asian American’, ‘Pacific Islander American’ and ‘queer’ not as fixed identities but as a critical paradigm (‘queering’) with which to interrogate and challenge normative notions of gender, sex, race, sexuality, citizenship, and ‘Asian-ness' as well as settler colonial frameworks sutured into liberal formulations of queer Asian and Pacific Islander American subjectivities.
