CollegeThe grade is basically made up of 3 essay like exams in which he has very high expectaions i did really well on them esspecially compared to some of my classmates and i recieved a pretty low grade with little to no explenation. It feels like he placed me in a b grade category and was out to give me a b regrdless of my effort a shame
It's pretty hard to get above an 89%. Be prepared for in class essay exams. He usually gives the questions before the test so there's ample time to study and write responses.
Zylstra is one of the best professors in the Phil department. He is super caring and wants his students to do well. 3 Papers and weekly reading questions. Clear grading criteria and easy to do well. Would definitely take again!
Zylstra is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I don't understand how his score is not higher on here. Especially in his Descrates and Spinoza classes, he is so engaging, so kind and caring, and the discussions are super fun. He's open minded and always makes students feel included. He's also a super chill grader. Take him. He's just the goat.
I took this class as a GE, and it was alright. I personally thought Professor Z was a great professor, but it was very test-heavy. This class consists of assignments, i-clicker quizzes, and exams. The 3 exams make up your grade. Great professor though. I would not take this class as an easy GE though, lots of reading and prep.
Class wasn't bad, you don't have to purchase a textbook, but you use iclicker and the subscription is like $17 for the whole semester and you use it for reading quizzes at the beginning of the class which is also used for attendance. Not much work besides the readings before class and the in-class activity. tests are pretty light.
