Content will vary with each instructor. Students will be asked to do a project that acquaints them with some of the resources of the library and results in their reading beyond the primary course materials. A full description for any given quarter will be available on the English Department's website.

CollegeGreat lecturer, and really funny! Summer session is definitely easier and more relaxed compared to a typical quarter. Readings are interesting and not difficult to keep up with. Attendance is crucial, as he examines specific quotes and symbols during lectures that definitely appear on quizzes/tests.
one of my favorite professors ever at UCSB. third time taking his class. love love love him. expectations are very clear. he doesn't expect much more than thoughtful discussion.
Finished my Upper-div seminar with Donnelly and this class was probably my favorite of the quarter. You get the sense that he genuinely cares about the material/students, and lectures were always interesting. Haven't received my grade yet, but I wouldn't say his class was "easy." Regardless, I highly recommend taking any course with him!
I love Donnelly!!! If you do the readings and pay attention in lecture (take notes), he tells you what's on the midterm.
The class itself is interesting and so are the novels we read. We also watched Ex Machina. The midterm is pretty much just stuff discussed in lecture but some of it was REALLY specific and it wasn't made very clear what to study. Additionally no grade I received was ever actually uploaded to Canvas. Still a fun class though!!
This was a hard class as a non English major. Unfair grading across TAs and grading expectations were not explicit. Lectures consisted of plot summaries rather than the deep insightful analyses needed to succeed on essays and the midterm. My grades were never imputed into canvas, so I don't even know what I got on the final.
