Collegehard class and fast lectures but he teaches it very well. homework takes a while, though exams are open textbook.
He cares about student and only present what is necessary to understand PDE. He always gives a big picture before diving into the specific. However, the only downside is he is hard (impossible) to reach through email.
Lots of work. very difficult HW. Reasonable tests, still tough but not like the HW. Get help from and his TAs and everything gets easier. Speaks very fast and with an accent, can be hard to understand. Provides a lot of basis for what he teaches, so you get lots of intuition.
Best professor in UCSB
Perfectly good professor. Take home midterms and final, got an A+ and barely studied.
Labutin is a great professor but the grading scheme was lackluster with no curve. This is a hard class but not impossible, and if you do the homework and the reading, you should be well equipped for exams. 3 exams, open note inlcuding take home final. It's a hard class but a very awesome, interesting, and mindbending one, so don't get discouraged.
