CollegeBefore taking this course, I used to love math, HOWEVER, Matt Porter made me hate calculus and anything it had to offer. Although it was my first time taking a calculus course, Porter made it 100 times harder to understand and made me dread going to class. In short, if you are looking to pass Math 2A with a good grade, DO NOT take Matt Porter.
terrible, seriously. his lectures are monotone and just examples, no real explanations of how to do the work. i spent a majority of the class teaching myself. the homework took hours but at least it was a good cushion for grading. he curves the grades at the end a lot but that doesn't change the fact that his teaching abilities are nonexistent
His lectures are equivalent to a double dose of valium, he makes no effort to explain topics clearly and basically just whisper mumbles through a few irrelevant examples. He cancels class pretty often, and on multiple occasions he just did not show up to class, forcing 100 students to get out of bed at 8am and come to class for no reason.
I really liked Matt. I took him for Math 2A this fall quarter, and was surprised about how easy the subject was. It was most of the things covered in my Highschool AP Calculus AB class, so the content is not too challenging. If you do the Webworks (weekly assignments), you already secure yourself a C. The rest is really on your test performances.
