Overall, a great, knowledgeable professor. Very clear grading criteria. Attendance is mandatory. Lectures are interesting, and readings are very supplemental to the in-class material. Very organized class structure.

She is the hardest grading teacher I have had at UCSB. TAs will grade something, then she regrades it with a lower grade with no explanation. She tests on specifics, rather than concepts, which is reflected in her lectures, which are not interesting or engaging. She is not a bad teacher necessarily, but she is just not good at explaining things.

she's an awesome prof! super knowledgeable and passionate about the subject! tests are all fine cause they're online. your TA makes/breaks your grade, not her.

Such jokes. There's a clear disconnect from the TAs and professor as things get graded by the TAs, then get regraded by the professor oftentimes dropping your initial grade by 10-20%. A lot of us also got cooked as the modules had to be redone due to unclear instructions. On top of it, the class is just boring. Midterm and final online though, lol.

I love this Queen! She instructs her students with conviction and power. She is concise with her teaching. Everything she says has purpose and always leads to her next part of the lesson so smoothly. She is funny and witty. Overall, an Amazing professor, and I feel fortunate to have been able to take two of her courses, this being one of them.

Do NOT take this class like seriously seriously seriously. This class was the most frustrating class I have ever taken in my years at UCSB. Made me want to drop out. The grading criteria is so inconsistent and the class is a mess.

TAs have not a clue what is going on. Got an email mid-week 9 that we got the wrong instructions for our last paper (worth 20%) that we were supposed to be working on all quarter and we were expected to redo our assignments. Grading is so unclear...if you care about your sanity, don't take this...it broke me

DO NOT TAKE FOR A GE!! Can't stress enough how incosistent the grading is between TAs and the prof. My TA would give me a good grade on my assignment, then the prof would go in and drop the grade by 10 points or more. She prays on students downfalls and does not make the class enjoyable when most are taking for a GE. Makes you hate architecture.

Do NOT take this class if it is just for a GE. The grading is inconsistent between the TA and professors. The TA will grade an assignment and a few weeks later the professor goes in and drops the grade over 10 points (almost every time). The lectures don't relate to the sections. So difficult for no reason.

Lectures are boring and don't relate to the 3 major projects. She would lower my grade 10-15 points weeks after my TA had already graded it with no explanation. Syllabus is inconsistent with the instructions given in lecture and overall just not a good class to take for GE if you are looking for something easy

Honestly the lectures made no sense and had nothing to do with the projects we were working on during section. She assigns a lot of readings that kind of go along with the projects but are mainly for the lectures. If you don't HAVE to take this class. Don't.

The TAs grade hard and don't give instructions for what they want. Everything she says is extremely obvious or something architectural that she never explained, so I don't know what's happening. Its either- "trees provide shade," or "axial design, trapezoidal shape and curved lines generate a centrifugal movement". Don't recommend.

Her lectures are rambling and often wholly unrelated to the assigned readings. Moreover, her slides are completely jumbled, with little to no “Cornell”-style planning between concepts, themes, and general ideas of each lecture. Mid

professor swati is knowledgeable and the readings were occasionally interesting, but the lectures could be confusing, and the readings felt were long and complicated sometimes. however, if you review the study guides for tests, the exams are really straightforward and i felt like i learned a lot from the course.

Swati's teaching style can be best described as firm yet open-minded. With primarily clear lectures and a lenient grading system, her course is easily accessible and engaging even to someone not in the art history scene. Participation and attendance is required to pass the course, though the online exams and in-class projects were hardly difficult.

Lectures were not relevant to assignments and were quite arbitrary - overall I enjoyed the class but her teaching style was really not beneficial to myself or others who were taking the class as well.

Professor was okay, she seemed sweet but I do think your TA makes or breaks your grade. unfortunately most of the ARTHI classes are paper heavy. overall easy ish class

This professor is simply extremely boring but she is not the problem. The problem is the TAs. Most do not know what is going on and will grade like their life depends on it. They are rude and extremely unhelpful. If you need an area F please try finding another class that won't hurt your GPA.

Chattopadhyay may be a bit intimidating at first, but she's genuinely interested in the subject matter and student learning. The only assignment was to keep a journal of class activities and the occasional assigned reading. If you show up and do the journal, it's an easy and fairly interesting class.

This professor lacked respect and was not at all respectful. She was rude and did not treat the students well. She should not teach.

Professor is very passionate about the subject and can be intimidating at times due to the amount of knowledge she has and her expectations of students. She makes lectures engaging based on how much she knows and clearly tells you what to expect for midterms, assignments, and projects.

5 modules each worth 10%. Midterm and final online. Chill class but super uninteresting and the lectures felt 10 hours long. TA grades hard and makes you walk around the Arts Building every week writing down observations. Felt like the class was a waste of my time, did not learn much. Dissapointed in the GE classes at UCSB.

There is a lot of reading and you really have to pay attention during the lectures but I found it pretty interesting. Sometimes the concepts were very abstract but the TAs and the sections really helped. Not a super hard class but you definitely just have to put in some time.

Tough if you have no experience in the subject. TA's grade.
