The practice exams really helped since they were almost identical. I learned NOTHING in 118 and some stuff in 185.

If you wanna do well on his exams, you have to read the book thoroughly & memorize as much materials as you can.

Lectures were boring, tests were hard...the final is worth half your grade...the Access assignment took a lot of my time for such little points.

Good Professor, Good understanding of Material, Sometimes assigns too much homework in econ 136a. A little tough sometimes but always fair in both classes.

Go to all the lectures (he gives extra credit work sometimes), do all the projects carefully and check them to see if it can get regraded (sometimes they mess up), take the practice exam and listen to what he says. It's actually pretty easy..just use your common sense when answering

Make sure you get the projects done a few days in advance because if something goes wrong, you don't want to stress. I liked the projects, I actually feel like I learned something. His lectures aren't anything I was interested in, but if you go to lecture, you'll do fine on the midterm and final.

Pretty chill class, go to class and dont worry about the IT book. Excel and Access pretty long assignments depending on how much u know it before. .

ECON136B . 20 Years Ago

Tough but fair. Explains things very well. 136B is a difficult course lots of material which he tests. Lots of work in 136B. 185 is very interesting, good projects, interesting speaker.

I agree with the other comments. He puts zero effort in to teaching. Powerpoint slides are from the book. The exact opposite of Sander, who uses his real world experience to keep students interested.

I have also taken 136B with him. I would suggest taking 185 but thats it. 118 is the worst with him, anyone else would be better. All of the lectures are copies from the books powerpoint. 185 is the only class he knows about.

his test sucks. He asks the students to memorize the whole book. Dont take his class if you want to get good grades. However, 185 is an interesting class and is useful for the reality. But, just dont take with OWEN.

Owen puts as little effort into his classes as the students falling asleep or not attending them. In 136b he lectured straight from the book and did not put any of his own energy in conveying the information. Only works at SB to collect pay check.

Not really a hard class. Just too much memorizing. Best advice is to memorize the notes from online and you'll do fine. Excel and Access projects are easy and he is very helpful if you go to his office hours.
