If you plan to go to italy, then you should take this class. Dr. Paul is clear, her lectures are alright, she asks a lot of questions about the reading during class and on the test. Overall i ended up making like 120 note cards 60 for midterm and 60 for final. If you try then you will do fine

Good professor and class, very clear. Not confusing, not boring. Course web site very helpful, she posts the images you're responsible for. Very straightforward.

She is incredibly boring. I love art history -- but I can't stand her teaching because it makes me want to barf and pass out.

Carol is helpful and clear of her expectations. She focuses A LOT on the readings (and there is a lot of them) and she does test on them. She'll test on random images that she doesn't discuss much in class. And she doesn't repeat artists names either. But she is a great teacher and very enthusiastic about the subject.

If you're ever in her class, take a tape recorder because she NEVER repeats artists' names and/or titles of the pieces. She's also really big on the readings, even the ones on reserve. Oh- and she says "umm" way too many times. So when her lectures get boring, just start counting.

she doesnt repeat artist names so half the time you don't know who she is talking about and if you are a first class art history person then you will never take it again after taking her ...

i really enjoyed learning about the paintings and the history behind them, have an interest before going or you'll find it boring. be prepared to memorize over 100 dates for the final. This class is just alllll memorization, but you don't have to do the reading

Boring class, but it is one of the easiest classes I have taken at ucsb.

Fairly easy class. She's pretty nice, and if you actually pay attention to the content of the lecture you don't even hear the uhs and the ums.

great prof for upper division-she seems to be genuinely interested in Bernini. she does test on the reading--even the articles on reserve at the library, so if she mentions a reading in class, read it (e.g. kitao's article)! if she doesnt mention it, she probably won't test on it.

Her class on Bernini was really good. The tests weren't too hard, but it was worth making flashcards for them. She pretty clearly reiterates the themes she wants you to know, so it's easy to follow along. She basically equips you to go out and study Bernini on your own if you want. A great primer

Any of her classes in Italian architecture or sculpture are incredibly easy. She is so excited about the subject and teaches it well. The tests and papers are very easy as long as you moderately pay attention. She makes the subject matter interesting too.

The dullest class imaginable. She says "ummm..." far too often. I tried very hard, but could not stay awake for the first five classes and stopped going.

So incredibly boring! shoot me! i fell asleep so many times! We drank to every "umm" in our last class. She said is so many times!

This was THE most BORING class I have ever taken! The only one I've ever fallen asleep in. And I did more than once. It's repetitive, looking at paintings for hours and hours and hours. If that's your thing, go ahead.

ok teacher. dont worry too much about taking notes. all you have to do is memorize monument list for the test.

The lectures are sometimes unorganized because she doesn't give you the name of slides. But when you write down what slide it is, you get a lot of info. If you actually do work, class is easy.
