This guy is too much. Wears a bow-tie to class everyday and looks like an Amish dude with his beard. Really passionate about teaching and he knows his stuff. He hands out typed notes before every class on the previous lecture. Class isn't an easy one, but he motivates you to work hard and excel.

Amazing man, dedicated, humorous, interesting, easy to follow, clear to understand... Plus, he hands out his own notes for every lecture at the next lecture. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Difficult to understand at times but his notes for this class are amazing. Dont even have to go to lecture, just get the notes, but his lectures are interesting!
He is truly an impressive professor, unique looking and brilliant (PHD from Harvard in the subject). If you are interested in geology, biology, or paleontology, you MUST take this class with him! But don't expect a passing grade if you do nothing, his class deserves some work and attention.
He's not easy, but he may be the best professor at UCSB. I took his class Geo 11 - Jurassic Park in 1997. The best class I have ever taken at UCSB. One of the few classes in which I still have retained knowledge of the subject.
The most inspiring man I have ver met, possibly the smartest as well. Tries so hard to excite the student about the topic, I almost dried at the last lecture.
This guy is simply amazing. I failed the first midterm cause I didn't know how to study but then I met with him a few times and he changed everything. I got an A on the FINAL! I am an English major, now minoring in Geology

He was a good teacher, pretty funny (although I found myself to be the only one laughing sometimes), his bowties make the whole class worth it. The very last lecture was absolutely amazing!
What an awesome dude! So passionate about his subject. Great with the help, even greater with the clarity. the work/tests are challenging, but he makes it worth while!
