Such a sweet professor. Very passionate about this class. A ton of material to memorize but the exams only test how much you can recall on big themes and general topics. Write down the bolded vocabulary words and list everything you know about the word. This studying strategy will mirror the exam format. Like any other class, prepare well!

The class grading scale is trash. 40% Midterm, 60% Final. Nothing else is accounted for, so you better prepare and do well on both the Midterm and the Final. Heavily based on cladograms.

Super nice guy! He's very passionate about paleontology and paleobotany. Posts complete outlines w/ full sentences for each lecture, so attendance wasn't mandatory but he's an interesting speaker. Lecture material is dense and may seem overwhelming, but exams just makes you list out all the facts that you know about big, important topics.

A wonderful person and a passionate professor that really comes alive with the subject of botany. He's very deep into the material, so if you aren't a bio major you will have to work harder to catch up, but he encourages everyone to take the chance to learn and participate. A really fun guy who wants you to succeed and enjoy plant science.

Very boring class but they provide notes on GS so you dont have to go to class. TAKE THE LAB, super easy class its 3 hours long but only takes 1.5 MAX. Lecture is entirely MT/Final so just prepare ahead and Answer the questions at the end of his lecture notes (MUST).

Bruce is the best teacher I have ever had. Please take his classes, and get to know him. HE is an inspiration, a great person, and one stylish cool cat (with a hat).

this class was also called GEO 111. Anyways, bruce is the best! sick bow-ties everyday, you dont need the book. he doesnt use it and his test are exactly identical to the outlines he provides, so you dont even need to take notes(or show up). the class is interesting, and he knows it perfectly.with a small effort you will do really well and love him

This guy is pretty funny, wears ridiculous outfits and talks kinda crazy. He's cool though, really smart and can explain anything. He does lecture rather fast and doesn't use power point or give many notes on the board. The midterm and final were long and pretty difficult.

I loved this guy. He cares about his field so much and really shows his passion in class. You will definitely be challenged because he wants you to learn. One thing: go to his office hours. He really appreciates it and is very friendly. He gets sad when no one goes to see him. And he doesn't deserve that because he's so awesome!

One of my favorite teachers @ UCSB. Great sense of humor, extremely smart & makes lectures fun. Very fair w/grading, GREAT class, I learned a lot. Tests mixed with essay, m/c, short answer, timeline, and cladogram. For essays, every point u make earns u a point in ur score. So if a question is worth 8 points, make sure u make 8 points in the essay.

Bruce is hysterical. He's so into his field that you feel like maybe you should spend mroe time looking at dead plants. He is very passionate and willing to help out. But what really makes bruce is the tevas, socks, bow tie, hankerchief and field hat!
