charness is awesome. he's so kicked back i don't know why people are complaining when OVER 50% of the class will get an A or B. he doesn't give minuses. basically get a hold of some practice tests, do the workbook problems, and go to SECTION(S). those will be your most useful assets. i'd say class itself is optional...
i really do hate this man. his grading is unfair and unclear. he's a depresed slob, doesn't understand what he's traching, is very self-serving, etc. not there for his students, no passion, coherency, clarity, friendliness, etc. responds to lengthy, polite e-mails with one sentence in lowercase letters. i have passionate hatred toward him!!!
Not a very hard class like everyone said. if you can do all the quizzes and past exams questions, then you're fine. Also go to CLAS, that's a guarantee A. Got a C+ in Econ 3B with Sander, but A+ in Econ 100A!!!
I got A's on all of my midterms and an A on the final. not a hard class if you go to CLAS, do the quizzes, go to office hours, and get the past exams from previous quarters from your friend. Questions are the same just the number changes. It's true that you're better off with your T.A. and going to CLAS.
charness is a freak! disorganized, sloppy, weird grading system...you get the distinct impression he doesn't know what he's talking about!! his solutions are all "intuitive...yet there's probably a systematic way of solving it." doesn't teach s***! get grace as a TA, she's AMAZING. diligent, friendly, sweet. charness is a dud, stick to softball bud
I didnt ever pay attention to his lectures becuase they don't make sense, but go to get practice test questions. Buy only the workook,you wont need the text. Go to section to learn how to do the problems. Get old practice tests, some ?'s are the same on the actual test. His grading system sucks.
good professor overall. three midterms, drops your lowest. extremely generous curve. midterms consist of problems similar to quiz questions in the workbook..listen in class and in section and you'll be fine. nice guy and lectures are somewhat interesting and easy to follow..overall a good course.
Charness is a very fair prof., he is so weird he cracks me up. He is very smart and solves all the problem theoreticly and has a hard time doing them using math for the class. The lecture section of the class explains the thoery behind everything but the test are pure math problems.
He is a nice guy, but he isn't very good at explaining things. He lets you drop your lowest midterm and the curve is good, so it isnt a hard class to do well in.
Just not good. Very absent-minded, confusing, skips way too many steps when he does calculations...should not be teaching! Good luck with this guy, but the midterms are like the quizzes but harder, and the final was just like the midterms. Pay attention to your TA's - you're much better off...
He is an eccentric teacher, but really friendly and is very helpful if you need it. Extremely generous grader, doesn't give minuses so a whole lot of people get A's. The tests are super easy and are nearly identical to the quiz questions

Very nice and understanding Professor. Ecclectic personality, very helpful in office hours. If you allow him to put a name to your face you will do good in the class. Lectures are a bit confusing, he absent minded at times. CLAS is a great supplement to the course,(guarenteed A).

Charness is one of the most unhelpful professors I have ever had. He looks like droopy the dog, and is supposed to be brilliant however, I find this hard to believe concidering his absentmindedness and irrelevant lectures. Do not take a Charness course!
