I was really unsatisfied with how little I learned in this class. Her lectures were unclear, she read off of the slides every lecture with the exception of a cute intro slide. Seems like she's extremely new at teaching and is still very unfamiliar with the content. Questions were never answered clearly -- she would simply repeat what the slide said
Not a very understanding professor at all. Grade is very test/quiz heavy and tests are extremely difficult mostly because her lecture style does not aid in answering comprehensive test questions. Do not take her, she is super rude, doesn't lecture very well and obviously does not care to know the information she is presenting. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
She seemed very nice and the class seemed doable at first but her teaching style was so unorganized that it made studying so confusing. There was many things on the exams that were never brought up. I would study for hours for her exams and still get Bs and below. She is not an understanding professor either. Would not recommend
She is not an understanding or flexible teacher. Questions are specific and sometimes irrelevant to material from lectures and readings.
She is a very nice person, but her tests are just ridiculous. We are expected to know things that she doesn't even mention in lecture nor through chapter readings. Not only that, she does go at a nice pace for lectures, but throws so much information at you that it can be a bit difficult to grasp what she's trying to say.
I rly liked Dr. Ford & dont think she deserves the low rating that she has lol, explanations of studies (study-based lectures) could be more specific/simple, but shes open to questions in class & as an upper div class, if you actually do the assigned readings its easier to understand when she explains. Study sheet would be cool bc grade=exam scores
This class was overall not too difficult, however, I did not like the professor. Her slides were taken from a prior professor, and it felt at times as if she did not understand them herself. People would ask questions about the content and she could not answer them. The tests were not too bad if you go to lecture and study.
Very straightforward in her grading system and still new to teaching but she copy/paste's from past professor's lectures pretty much verbatim and doesn't really show much interest in psych itself
shes just not great. shes a quantity over quality kind of girl, she confuses herself as she lectures and there is just simply too much content to even be able to cover well enough. I gained a laundry list of marraige statistics rather than much conceptual/theoretical knowledge. Shes a good person but got a bitttt too ambitious with this class :/
Maybe she just teaches that class better, but honestly, she was great. Reading was very relevant, lectures were good and imparted information to us well. Very generously gave fair game sheets for the midterm and final as well. Also, just a pretty friendly person. Strict on late work though.
Just stay away from this prof at all costs. Genuinely the worst experience I've had at UCSB. Unorganized, uninformed about the content she attempted to teach, rude over email to students, and on top of everything, extremely unfair grade structure and tests. Save yourself the trouble and don't take ANY class with her. Seriously it's not worth it.
she was nice/engaging and seems like a newer professor, but I think she'll get better! Content was super interesting, but her lectures felt fast and she didn't always have answers for students' questions, but at least for most test questions, her explanations were adequate, but I studied notes thoroughly. I still recommend and would take her again!
Only graded on 2 quizzes and a final exam. Information is difficult to integrate without assignments that relate to the course and its challenging to know what info is important. Doesn't seem like she knows the information and the lectures are not engaging and rushed. She seems like a nice person but also didn't seem to want to be there.
Although her personality is ok, as a prof, it's obvious she doesn't know the content of her own class (doesn't answer questions clearly, seems like 1st time she's reading her slides is in class). She does record lectures though. Two online quizzes and one in person final (cumulative). Class feels disorganized and unexpected.
Professor Ford is the worst. I honestly have no idea how she got the job. She was rude in her e-mail responses, uninformed on the content of the course, and made it difficult to access class content. Due dates on Gauchospace did not reflect the due dates in the syllabus, yet there was no sympathy if you missed a deadline. I wish her the worst.
One of the more unreasonable upper divs I have taken. She doesn't explain concepts well and assigns sooo much reading material and does not give ANY advice on what to study for the final. Super unfair; on the worse end of psych profs I've had in my four years. Her lectures are hard to follow because she doesn't know what she's talking about.
I would not suggest this course to those looking for any upper-division units. The grade is entirely based on two online quizzes and one in-person cumulative final exam. Everything in the course is applicable to the final, and there is no other guide or structure. She does not let you review quizzes, and grading takes an extremely long time.
Professor Ford is not an organized professor. Her lectures are fast, and she never has answers to students' questions. She doesn't seem to be informed about what she is teaching, and her slides are confusing. Her Gauchospace is unorganized and hard to follow, and she lacks communication skills with students.
Lectures are standard and boring. She talks too fast in lectures and is bad at explaining research studies that are complex. The way the course is set up is not a helpful learning format and just feels useless (2 online quizzes and 1 cumulative in-person final). She is not good at teaching and should find something else to do honestly.
She's cool and I like her but the class structure isn't student friendly. No idea what to study for the final because there's no fair game sheet or concept outline, just a really useless "study tip" page? 50% two open note quizzes & 40% final that is cumulative & suddenly in person with no guidance on what material to study besides "everything" :/
Class is very interesting, thus far! Dr. Ford demonstrates that she wants to teach students but her class has inconsistency. She has 2 online quizzes and 1 in-person final. It really does not help that she gives online quizzes and expects students to take an in-person final. 4 short assignments too but grade depends on exams. Qs can be confusing;
Due to no reviews, I sat in on ONE class. I thought I would share. The professor went to school at UCSB. She was young and seemed cool. Moderate to slow paced lecturer, but talks at a normal pace, easy to keep up. Slides had small/reasonable amounts of info on them. The class period and material reminded me of PSY 102/105.
