I never write reviews but here I am. I feel compelled to help out my fellow gauchos, and warn all to not take this class. The material and classroom discussions are interesting and intriguing but this grading criteria is extremely unclear. His way or the highway, dont even try to voice your opinion because it will be "wrong."

Severely disappointed. Words can't express how much I hated him. Subject material is fine, but he's a tough grader. He is what they call "basura." Didn't turn in grades on time, didn't show up to office hours. For sure an unfair grader! Save yourself and your GPA, and your time, and your tears, and SKIP OUT ON THIS PROFESSOR!!!

Lomeli has a lot of weird criteria that are hard to follow. He thinks about the books in his own way, and isn't really open to other interpretations. He grades essays/tests very harshly, and assigns a heavy amount of reading. There are extra credit opportunities if you make in-class presentations. Your grade is 1 MT, 1 final, essay, and attendance

I took this class this past summer and loved it! I was able to use my brother's reader from summer 2010 and all the books were the same too! He has you read a novel, a series of short stories, a short play and some poems from the reader. He gives you extra credit for participation, so participate as much as you can and ALWAYS attend class!

Attendance is mandatory during summer. Interesting lectures, but his opinion is the only opinion. Papers were difficult because he wanted "new" ideas about the subjects, but everything was covered in class. Tests were very easy as long as you went to lecture.

Kept class interesting and really knew what he was talking about. The novels we read were gripping and addictive. Tests are moderately difficult, just read what he tells you to, duh! He truly cares for his students and whether they are understanding the material or not. One of the nicest Spanish professors I have ever had.

This guy was the worst. He has no regard for his students understanding or anything but his own opinions or views, if you have anything other than those, you're f**ked. Stay away from this class... not even kidding. Oh and he glares at small children. (including myself when i was young and before i knew him)

Lomeli was one of my all-time favorite professors. He always had time for his students, and even held study sessions at his home with the entire class.

I hated his class. He tries to enforce his views on his students. He is very unclear with what he expects from his students. I tend to write well, but with him it was never what he wanted. Unless you plan to agree with him 100%, do not take this class.

Well, he might be very smart but he does is not helpful at all. He makes you write this critical reviews and does not even help you when you are confused. I am Chicana and I felt really uncomfortable in his class. He was not specific in his lectures.

AVOID CLASS! Lomeli is the worst prof I have ever had at UCSB. He likes to hear himself talk. Assigns wayyyyy too much work in his Honor's section. Constantly interrupts students. Lectures are awful...you do the same thing everyday. If your not Chicano, don't plan on getting a good grade.

He is an awesome professor and excellent person who is always willing to help. Some words in Spanish are inevitable and he does explain them, after all, it is a chicano studies class. Feel left out? Ask, we're willing to help, not being of this ethnic group will be challenging but enlightening.

His lectures are very unstructered, he always goes off on tangents and it is impossible to know what he wants you to get out of them. He is a nice guy and is willing to help if you ask, but the quality of his lectures are very poor.

Smart & passionate, but no structure in lectures. He makes remarks that only chicanos can understand & can make others feel very left out. Everything & anything he ever said could be on the exams! Good Luck!

Lomeli seems like a really nice, intelligent guy. However, as a non-Chicano, I felt out of the loop (for example, a lot of Spanish words are used, and they aren't alway explained). The lectures rarely had anything to do with the reading, and the reading was only sometimes interesting. Skip this one.

challenging but very worthwhile. his reading material is interesting and he looks for specifics but he is very intellegent and knows his stuff. talk to him outside of class and he will do his best to help you out

worst professor ever.he teaches only to sell his books and his sister's.his lectures never pertained to anything from the books, and his exams are VERY tricky (don't think T/F questions are easy) because he wants to be "subtle." well, avoid him at all cost.doesn't even try to make class interesting

Although Lomeli is an intelligent man, his lectures do not allude to this. The class as a whole is unstructured. You must pay close attention in lectures (important points are stated at mach 3 speed w/ little annunciation). Exams are pretty easy- just study everything he has ever said. Good luck!

prof. lomeli seems a little strange. he teaches as if he is only speaking to chican@s. i am chican@, and i felt he was leaving out the non-chican@s. his lectures are very unspecific, he does not keep on task. he'll list things he's going to talk about and then not talk about any of those things.
