go to lecture for ICLICKER POINTS. 20 points is the difference between an A and a B (yes it goes through A- and B+ so its practically 4 steps). only the top 20% will get A's so watch ur placement in class. your job is merely to beat out the other people so ATTEND CLAS. his office hours are nice but not too necessary.
I HATE this class.I've never comtemplated burning a book before this class.Make sure to attend classes and pay attention otherwise you are stuck replaying his useless lecture videos and have to suffer his nasally voice all over. His quizes does NOT help in taking test. Make sure you know your midterm 1 material really well or you'll run out of time
Hardest MCDB class ever, with ridiculously difficult exams. The final took the whole 3 hours and I still couldn't finish it. Go to CLAS. Emily was really helpful. He's a great teacher though, just have to work extremely hard for an A. Very approachable, funny, and helpful, tries to get you to pay attention in class. 101B was NOTHING like MCDB 1A.
I love Rolf! He is really funny, nice, and a good professor with a passion for genetics. 101B is not a hard class, but it is a little challenging to get an A. He throws a few curveballs on tests, but no malicious intent. Talk to him in office hours and he is really helpful. Take CLAS with Emily if you can, she is so awesome!
MCDB 101B requires a good amount of studying and practice problems. Definitely go to CLAS, or you'll be stumped when exam time comes. Dr. Christoffersen is a great guy. He's funny in lecture, and will do everything he can do to help if you attend office hours.
Tests resemble past ones, not the quizzes or clicker questions. Go to class and read the book.
Worst teacher Ive had in college. Mono tone and puts ridiculous questions on the test as shown by the averages being around 50 percent on the midterm and final. Stay away!
This guy made me not want to attend class.
should not have even went to class. all i did was teach myself
This class is very work intensive. You have to keep up with the material. I found that the homework problems are not very helpful, but going to section and clas is. Prof. Christoffersen wants you to learn the matieral, but expects you to work really hard. If you just work at it, you will do fine in the class.
very helpful and fair grading. hes nice : )
So I don't get why everyone is directing so much hate towards Christoffersen. He's the man, he just really hates stupid people. Don't be stupid, do practice problems, and skim the book to get an A+.
He explains information well and seems like a really cool professor in class, but I explained that I would not be able to attend his office hours and asked him to arrange an appt. by e-mail and he planned his extra office hours at hours I had already e-mailed and told him that I could not attend. Tests are reasonable, but nothing like the quizzes.
i never knew how much statistics is used in bio! lots of problem solving... i felt like i was in a math class. as long as you do all the practice problems then you'll be good... study in advance bc it's alot of concepts to get. Genetics is not something you can study overnight, trust me
The class as a whole has a lot of info to cover. He teaches the genetics portion. You have to keep up on your reading, attend lectures, and do lots of practice problems. Extremely approachable and easy to talk to, totally willing to help you out in office hours and after class. Has all lecture slides online and old exams, offers extra credit quizze
The class is great, but the professor is another story. He didn't bother to help me when I asked for help. However, I heard he's better than Poole so just understand the problems in the textbook and you'll be fine.
The dude is totally chill. Don't be a moron though, because No One likes morons and you will hate yourself for taking this class while not being wicked good enough...Sucka. seriously wtf.
this class was very fast paced probably because it was during summer session. Tough class, you will have to study a lot. Christoffersen is very helpful and actually cares about his students
good teacher and willing to help but the subject matter can be tricky and the fina; had about 20x the info that either midterm did so it was unexpectedly stressful to study for
Super difficult class. Easy C if even if you don't learn ne thing a&b seem out of reach Info was boring & unclear. Prof. on the other hand is understanding, caring, & 1 of the most approachable professors I've ever met in all my years at UCSB. He's not like other MCDB/EEMB professors that r too involved in their research to talk to their students.
Terrible teacher! He has very high expectations and if you mess up he has no pity! I do not recommend him, although Poole is 10x worst so I guess just work VERY hard with Christoff to avoid Poole by all means!
He taught the genetics part of this course. Practice fianl is very helpful, and many problems are the same as the actual final. Doing all the quizzes is very helpful for both midterms are final. However, 115 questions on the final is just too much.
I had already taken ochem before taking this class so the first half was a breeze. After that, I counted on CLAS and the extra credit quizzes to teach me the material. Lectures weren't really helpful other than to basically tell me what to look over.
If you can teach yourself how to do genetics problems... you're in good shape. Otherwise prepare to be bent over on the exams.
