Just avoid at all cost cuz he just throws materials and questions to you without any valid explanation, the A I got is exclusively attributed to self tutoring and has nothing to do with his instruction, attending lectures is a waste of time.
He give every lecture like a review assuming everybody is genius who should already be super familiar with the new topics. Be prepared to teach yourself! You can have a better education on Youtube!
Professor Mouti is a kind and caring professor that really cares about his students. Although the lecture material was sometimes confusing, he gives many extra credit opportunities and is extremely accessible outside of class, whether it be in office hours or on discord. Overall, he really helped grasp the material.
Professor Mouti was a very good professor. While he went through examples in lecture very quickly, he answered any questions that we had about the lecture content and he always made concepts clear if you asked for help. He was always available outside of class hours on discord and held office hours often. It was a very hard class, but manageable.
Professor Mouti is a nice caring man. He really wants people to pass this course. His lectures were difficult and require lots of self studying, however he is always available to help and wants to make sure you do well in the class. Easy grading (maybe because it was an online summer course) I failed every quiz and exam and passed with a C+.
Hard class with bad teaching. Get ready to teach yourself. Do not take during Summer. You will suffer. There was a huge amount of mistakes on homeworks, lectures, quizzes which made understanding the material harder. I had to sell my soul. Expects you to master material faster than a math prodigy. Class material is hard; he made it harder.
Mouti is one of the most caring professors I've ever encountered. He is available almost 24/7 on discord, hosts extra office hours, and offers extra resources. HOWEVER, pstat120a is a HARD class, especially online within 6 weeks. DO NOT expect an A with lectures and hw alone, his lectures can be hard to understand, ASK FOR HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT.
He is a caring professor that dosent want to fail u. His classe at least the online ones are really bad. The course covers a lot of material and he doesn't really go over it in detail. He throws concepts at u and u need to figure it out by yourself basically. I felt like I was completely lost and he was solving problems like its basic algebra
Professor Mouti, In my opinion is a very caring professor whenever I would have a question he quickly answers within mins. I am taking PSTAT 120A in the summer and it is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. That is also partly because I am doing a full-time internship. My advise is never get behind in his class because it is tough.
Professor Mouti really did an excellent job in teaching Pstat160A. He is nice, patient, and helpful. OH is super useful. The lecture is clear and organized. The proof is easy to follow and understand. I used to be worried a lot about my poor python but he really helped me a lot.
Course load is a bit heavy but there are many resources to ask for help; exams are closely related to lecture/HW/practice; overall learning experience is good because this professor genuinely cares about students and actively answer student questions on discord/email/office hour.
Hard class, poor lecture habits. Took this class in Winter 2022 and he was extremly disorganized. Sometimes he would change the instructions mid-assignment or put something on an exam that he explicitly mentioned was not going to be there. The only good thing was the curve gave a B from the mid-60 % range
If you want to strengthen your ability in stats, prof.Mouti is your best choice. If all you want is a grade, take him as well. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities and allows you to revise your hw for a perfect grade. He offers catch-up exams for those who did poorly on midterm or final. How can you not succeed with a professor like this!
Not a easy grader
CRAPPY, lectures are not helpful, exam questions are beyond the reach of this course's content.
I took this class as my first course ever in the PSTAT department and got an A-. I'm not smart. I went to office hours every week with professor and he went in-depth with the material with me. I'm assuming everyone on here just did the homework every week and started crying when they realized they needed to put in more work than the bare minimum
Fast paced lectures but went through useful examples. Self graded homework. Quizzes and exams were difficult but doable if you understood the homework. Required attendance at 8 am :(. Available outside of class on Discord. I would definitely take again, the class was difficult but interesting and rewarding.
He is very sympathetic and a nice guy in general, he's not the greatest lecturer. I felt that hw ad some unnecessarily difficult problems. Midterm was actually pretty ok but the final ruined me. However, he did give an extra credit project which was nice. Should you take a class with him, be sure to read the textbook and do a lot of examples.
This is one of the hardest classes at UCSB and having had taken it with other Professors such as Uma Ravat(Her RMP score should be lower than it is, which is about a 1) I can honestly say he did a great job. He was fair across the board, gave solid extra credit etc. He worked around the clock helping us on the discord, like answering at 2am. Props.
His lectures are sometimes disorganized and I wonder if it was because his first time teaching pstat171 ( but I guess it’s not his first time). During lectures, he was confused by himself several times and I remember there was one time he literally spend around 40mind to a single example and he couldn’t figure out.
Nice teacher, who genuinely cares for his students. However is very unclear during lectures, assigns a lot of homework, and has very difficult tests. The class is curved ALOT though to make up for this.
Don't take his class!!!
Ended with over 100% in the class due to a free 5% ec. Lectures are fast paced, but homework helps a lot. Midterm and Final are similar to HW. He is very willing to help, and always active on discord. Office hours help a lot. Would give 5/5 if lectures were more clear, would prefer if he explained in terms rather than just mathematical notation
I've had professors that can teach difficult topics patiently and clearly. Saad Mouti is not one of them. Homework was impossible without help (shoutout to some amazing TAs and ULA Patrick Yu). Saad would erratically announce class policies on Discord which would get buried in the chat. The class avg on the final was 56% after being curved.....
