The sweetest, nicest, little, old Greek man you'll ever meet. I went to lecture just because I thought he was so adorable and I felt really bad that no one else did-- in other words, lecture was pointless, he basically summarized the reading and occasionally analyzed a hymn or 2. Just do the reading; it's fascinating even though lecture isn't.

He's basically a lovable old man. Very knowledgable, as he wrote most of the assigned texts, and friendly enough to say hi if he sees you outside of class. His greek accent made him slightly hard to understand when sitting near the back, so I moved to the fronnt and had no further problems.

This professor should watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding because he IS the father in the movie. Aside from looking and sounding like him, he has the same Greek obsession. Even though the class was about mythology, he talked about Greece itself and how the roots of all words are Greek. good teacher, very easy tests. he offered mints on the last day.

Good professor. Boring lectures, but tests and section quizzes are easy. Not a lot of reading. I took this class for a GE. There are a lot worse places to be.

This class is really fun, at first it seems like a lot of reading but it's not really necessary to get a good grade, the tests are really easy and the teacher is so great. He is really passionat about the subject and knows his stuff. I definately recommend it

this is the nicest man in the world! Going to his class is like having a story time in kindergarden. He really respects his students and puts a great emphasis on treating them as his "guests." He even gives out chocolate after the midterm to everyone. 9am sucks, but this class is worth it. Easy A too

Easiest class you can find in UCSB, I got an A- without reading a single page of the books. Tests are only mc and true or false which are super easy. (most people finishs midterm and final in 30 minutes). Also, he is a very nice guy, very concerned about students. I definitely recommend every one to take his class.

he is so sweet and the class is easy..great literature GE. i enjoyed it because he talked a lot about the culture of greece and was really sentimental and passionate about it.

One of the easiest and most interesting classes I've taken so far. Absolutely no background exposure to Greek Myth required... Athanassakis is amazing.

hes so cute! he has a greek accent, and gets soo into his stories. i like him, even though he rambles sometimes. he's a good teacher though. and his tests are not very hard.

Superficiallly friendly with not much substance.

Easy class if you can bs your way through classic literature

The very first class I took as an undergrad, back in 2000. Prof. Athanassakis made the material easy to understand, and was extremely approachable. Hearing him read from the original Greek texts was a definite plus.

He makes the class very interesting and brings a light-hearted attitude to the class' atmosphere.

best class ever! it was wayy easy, and the lectures were a lot of fun. plus just listening to the prof talk in his accent!!! :) very cool. he's a really really sweet man.

he's amazing, and the lectures are very interesting. you can tell he's passionate about everything he teaches. he's a great professor who actually cares about the students and if you visit him during office hours you will realize that.

Easiest class ever!

He is the sweetest man i have ever meet! he is very enthusiastic about the material and is very helpful. if you do all the reading, you are garunteed an A.

He is soo awesome! His class is easy, but he really loves the subject. Its interesting to watch him get into the subjects. I went to class just to hear him, although you could just get by either reading, or not reading and going to class. Loved it! I would love to take another class of his!!!

Very BORING. It's not worth it to struggle through the readings because he summarizes all the myths in class. Tests were VERY EASY!! Hard to understand what he was saying sometimes because of his accent, but he is extremely smart. Seems like a nice guy; I felt bad that no one went to his lectures.

This class is amazing. So easy as long as do the readings, go to lecture, disc required. Tests are fair n simple. Makes one understand the whole mythology scene!! Awesome class
