Hamilton was such an engaging lecturer and really good at being accessible for questions. Take good notes and you should be good. 3 exams with MCQ and calculation problems that are graded on a very lenient curve. You can use the textbook and any sticky notes you stuff in it on the test. Minimal homework.
dr. hamilton is great! 3 papers, attendance is mandatory, and a final. each paper has very clear grading criteria and are graded pretty fairly. lectures are very engaging as well. i recommend!
Comm 160DM is a great class and it is easy to do well as long as you apply yourself and use the lecture material. Only 3 major assignments (besides the final). Dr. Hamilton is funny and engaging in lectures and I learned the most from this Comm class out of every one I've taken. Take this class if you want to go into marketing!
Dr. Hamilton is awesome! She is seriously so smart and KNOWS what she is talking about. I asked her about a question on the exam and instead of just telling me that I simply got it wrong, she helped me really understand and went as far as providing another example question to make sure I understood. Not a bad workload. Pay attention in lecture.
Prof Hamilton is an amazing professor. Her lectures are always interesting and easy to pay attention to, although can be lengthy at times. You can tell she is very passionate about what she is talking about. The class is centered around 3 projects and a final exam. The projects are very do-able and graded very fairly. Final was hard so study a lot.
Prof. Hamilton is very approachable and cool. Lecture slides are helpful and provide lots of examples for understanding course content. 3 papers with step-by-step instructions and a final exam. She is in-tune with current trends and finds ways to relate to students to create more engaging lectures. Very knowledgeable and is happy to help.
I had Hamilton for COMM 166+160DM and they were amazing in both. They sparked my passion for marketing and it's very clear that they're knowledgeable in their craft. Their lectures are very easy to follow, and I especially appreciate that the assignments/projects give hands-on experience with methods applicable to real-world marketing or a job. 5/5
Professor Hamilton is very kind and knowledgeable, and truly wants her students to learn and succeed. The grade consisted of attendance, 3 papers with clear expectations and relevant marketing applications, and a final. The papers are fun as she lets you choose the product/ issue to focus on and teaches you a lot about real-world marketing tactics.
Majority of the lectures included real-world examples and trends that were actually interesting and made it easier to recall the concepts for the final. Final grade consisted of 3 assignments (4-5 page papers on a product of your choice) Very straightforward & definitely one of the more engaging professors on campus
Prof Hamitlon's lectures are genuinely applicable to a lot of career fields that UCSB lacks guidance on. There are only 3 assignments in this class that were super manageable and she gives clear grading criteria. Also super passionate about what she teaches and is cool and hip so be prepared to talk about some fun topics in class.
Prof Hamilton is a very relatable & approachable, however, she goes through lectures very quickly. If her lectures were more slow-paced & split up, I think the information would be absorbed better, especially since knowing the material will help you understand the project better. Ms. Hamilton's email response varies--she either responds or doesn't.
Professor Hamilton Is passionate about her teaching, and although her teaching style might not be right for everyone she does make an effort to connect with students. Her presentations are a little dense so make sure you take notes. The course centers around a group project that is more than manageable as long as you work well with others.
This was my fav COMM class so far because it provides practical experience and centers around creating an Integrated Marketing Comm Plan for a real-world client. Lectures were very applicable professionally and well explained by Dr. Hamilton. She is very knowledgeable and helpful if you need guidance on any assignment, go to class and office hours!
Professor Hamilton is very caring and also gives good feedback. It sucks to be stuck with a bad group project member but the amount of assignments are very reasonable and she's also very very nice.
Very underrated professor at UCSB. I had her for Comm 166 (marketing). The entire class was centered around one big group project that is a lot of work but still very manageable. Hamilton is very knowledgable, fair, and enthusiastic about course material. Didn't end up buying the textbook because she covers everything in lecture.
This class is so bad. She doesn't read emails, and she doesn't even read your papers. All throughout my summer session, I had bad anonymous groupmates who graded my paper. Why are they bad they are not the professor and most of them don't even read my papers and just give bad scores because they can. Teaching was ok but boring after the first week.
Took Professor Hamilton for Comm 166. Hamilton is okay but the group project in this class is kind of awful, especially if you have a bad group, with big assignments due every week. I would only recommend this class to people who are really interested in marketing and getting an extremely hands-on approach by working with an actual client.
Cool class and professor, but completely ridiculous grading system. Your entire grade is based off peer review (as if students are qualified to fairly grade everyone?) If you contact her about your grader making a mistake, she regrades it herself and disregards your peer review score (while your classmates who got lenient graders get an easy A).
Was about to give Kristy a good review until we all realized she doesn't even do her job. All of the assignments are graded by your peers so you either have a good chance of getting an A in the class or something below because you were unfairly graded on it. She wa super condescending when we asked for help and flat-out rude. Don't take her classes
First quarter out of the gate and absolutely killed it! Informative, interesting, relevant lectures. 3 main assignments that are made useful in the real world and takes the time to help with any questions or confusion. Understands that tough grading isn't helpful and that learning something applicable is so much more important. LOVED THIS CLASS!
