Real Analysis is a difficult shock for hopeful math majors. Professor understands that and was very lenient in curving the tests, which were the majority of the grades. Lectures were thoughtful and he made sure students understand by encouraging questions to be asked. Get ready to do homework as they are very representative of the test questions.
Real Analysis is certainly not my favorite subject, but Ashwin made it enjoyable. Great lectures although the content can be difficult to understandmake sure you dont fall behind early on. Lots of homework, 2 midterms and a final. Ashwin is super caring and I would recommend him to anyone taking this course!
This course's content is super hard, but Ashwin made it SO interesting. His lectures were great, HW was doable and a large % of your overall grade. He cares abt his students so much; curved the average score on 2 midterms to around a B and then allowed the final to replace both scores. I hope I get to have him again. <3 U ASHWIN!!
Was his first time teaching the course. Good lectures and good notes, but felt like he made the midterm and final very hard because of how easy it is to look up stuff during an online quarter. Homework big part of the grade and curve helps A LOT. Possible to do good but course was not easy.
He's a new teacher here. At first, he gave hard homework and two midterms (not hard, but not enough time to finish). So most people felt upset and angry, that's why the first 8 negative ratings came. But he really cared for students. At last, he added 10% to everyone's homework and used a easy final to replace two midterms.
Easy A with the final
Midterms are hard but finally he made the policy to replace midterms with the final and that is very nice and everyone could have a good grade.
Lectures are informative, HWs are hard and time-consuming. However, he really cares about students and listens to students' voices. The last four HWs are much easier than the former ones. I never expect to get an A but he made the curve so flexible that everyone's grade went up. He is a really nice guy.
New professor with very good grading policies. Change the grading policy at the end to make students better grades.
Finally A. Good professor!
He is a good professor. Everything in his notes is clear and easy to follow even if you didnt go to the class. His homework feedback is so detailed and informative. He will also give you chances to improve your grades during the final. And the curves are so nice.
this class was rather frustrating
class consisted of the professor copying the textbook student: *asks question* professor: "you should know that already; any other questions class?" class: *silence for the rest of the quarter* midterm 1,2 avg: 58% Homework was hard. The grading was done by the TA. TA had illegible handwriting. 1positive: learned how to teach a class to myself
Worst professor by far. Homework is rather difficult on top of the extra hard exams. Barely teaches us.
The worst professor!!! NEVER NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS! Concepts, tests, and hw are all pretty hard thanks to him. RIGOROUS as well. If you take it, it must become your worst experience in your life.
The worst professor I have had. He repeats off the textbook and does not add anything valuable or insightful. Midterms insanely hard. The material in Math8 is confusing enough already but he made the material even harder.
Do not take his class! He wastes time writing down what is already in the book. He barely explains the content and sometimes wouldn't know how to do the homework he assigned. Reading the book wouldn't help either. HWs and tests have nothing to do with the lecture or the book. He is the worst teacher I've ever had in recent 15 years! Do not take it!
Easily the worst professor I have ever had. TAKE ANYONE ELSE IF YOU CAN. Spends time in lecture giving definitions and only barely explains concepts with any depth or relevancy. The practices/hw were nothing like the real tests. Test questions were poorly worded at best and grading was terrible. Class is unorganized as a whole. YouTube is better.
Graduate student at UW turned professor at UCSB. Gives mostly definitions in lectures full of incomprehensible content. Homework and test problems are hard and cannot be solved with information from textbook and lecture. Chegg and Math Stackexchange won't help. Nice in office hours and gives answers though. TAs graders take off points because mad.
