The class is not difficult, and the material is mostly straight forward. However, she is insanely difficult to deal with and not a caring person. She gave a seemingly straightforward writing assignment but graded it ridiculously strictly and also spied on students via GroupMe. Do NOT recommend if you want a caring lecturer.
Exams were straightforward so long as you watched the lectures and took comprehensive notes. Didn't need to read much of the textbook. There were a few issues with the first exam of the quarter and the grading criteria for the final essay but I believe she's getting rid of that assignment and I felt like she adapted pretty well to the challenges.
The worst professor I have ever dealt with at UCSB. She is extremely rude and unhelpful. Email her? You wont get a response, or you will get a nasty one. Her exams are straightforward but the paper she assigned at the end completely messed up everyones grade and she refused to override it. DONT TAKE HER CLASS
-good lectures -barely read: read vision chapter + wish I read drugs and mental health -extra material posted on every topic so you can learn more if you want -very caring, made mistakes but made up for them<3 -tests did not have anything unexpected (all from lecture besides DID) the paper did but she said she won't repeat that for future quarters
Only watched lectures & did fairly well on the exams. She doesnt provide a pdf ppt & her lecture mainly consists of pics. Kasie gave very unclear instructions and anxiety but understandable bc she is a new professor. I believe she will improve her next class because my class were the hamsters:,) she does seem passionate about teaching.
Despite some issues in the class regarding unclear assignments, the class was really interesting and she generally explained things well. She's really nice and cares about the best interest of her students. One thing to be aware of though: she does not provide powerpoint slides which can make lectures a bit strenuous and time-consuming.
Kasie's a cool person but a bad instructor. However, she would give unclear instructions and penalizes us for not understanding them. For instance, the questions on the paper were broad but she did not say she expects us to be very specific about the processes. The paper was supposed to help boost our grades but it completely backfired.
She did not give clear instructions on the peer review paper at first. She told us this paper is meant to help students to boost overall scores and use lecture material should be enough. However it turns out that if you only use leture material, your grade will be ruined. I felt very frustrated and she never respond direclty to students' concerns.
Made mistakes, I believe she will get better in the future since she is a new professor. Very nice and provided a lot of good extra material for students interested in learning more.
Unclear grading criteria, unnecessarily specific and difficult tests. Exams had so many questions and limited time, and the way she grades is very unfair (ex: 0 points if you select 4/5 correct on a multiple answer ? ) I have never experienced such ridiculous teaching and quality at UCSB. I could write so much more but just DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
Extremely frustrating teacher to deal with. She is unreasonable and has an attitude when you ask for help. She also doesn't explain things in-depth but she will expect you to magically know it. Expects way too much for the little effort she puts in. Tests aren't too hard and it's an easier class but AVOID HER.
Never clear about anything and doesnt reply to questions yet expects us to read her mind. Literally contradicts herself in lecture giving us the wrong information, maybe she should read the book before teaching.
lectures are unclear and confusing. she straight up contradicts herself or says the wrong terms and she doesn't post slides. Kind of unreasonable too. Discourages people from emailing and asking questions but then gets mad when people don't know things she never made clear to begin with. the class overall isn't too hard but she's not the best
Don't agree with the harsher ratings, Kasie's super nice and a great professor. Make quizlets with the key terms at the end of every lecture, know the answers to the optional assignments/summary questions, and take notes during study games and it's an easy A. Take notes on the textbook and also what she's saying during lectures!
Prof. Mays is great. She teaches like HS and dumbs down topic enough for me to understand. 3 midterms, 1 short final and 3 discussion posts. Her midterm grading is strict and does not curve, but lectures kept me entertained and she offers Jeopardy study sessions that include many exam answers. Lectures are crucial. Textbook unneeded for good grade.
I liked Professor Mays. She teaches like Highschool and really dumbs the topic down to where I could understand it. I took this online through the pandemic. 3 midterms and a final paper(300 word). and 3 short discussion posts. Lectures are crucial. And she also provides jeopardy study sessions where she inclides exam answers.
Professor wrote Dr.P's eye problem on the slides, but she didn't explain this content, how it helps illustrate the course material, why using "might when describing Dr.P's eye problems, and what evidence supports such a speculation, and who is Dr. P. Once, she suddenly spoke to Ben in the lecture while there were no students.
Not really a reasonable professor. Doesn't really give enough time for the exams, doesn't post lecture slides, and is overall very unaccommodating of many issues that students face during the covid-19 pandemic.
Kasie is a tough professor, she is unfair and she is brutal. Funny thing is that the first impression that you get from her is that she's kind and accommodating but after the first midterm, you get to know that she is actually not. Her tests are very difficult as you have one hour to answer close to 90 questions, making it kind of impossible.
Class setup is confusing: lectures mostly review stuff covered in the textbook but then she tests on random examples from lecture. Professor is rude, unprofessional, and difficult to reach or reason with(does not reply to e-mails). Following the first exam, she made us aware that she was "disappointed" in our answers to one question.
Honestly the professor seemed really sweet but I'm very disappointed with this class so far. Midterm time limit was so unfair and she is rude to students. One person emailed her and she got mad that it was "non urgent." Another person's wifi went out during the test and she said there was nothing she could do about it. Very odd professor
Kasie seemed nice at first, but the 1st midterm showed that she is very unreasonable with online learning and accommodating students. On midterms, she only allows 60 minutes for 65 questions that are multiple parts each. She also refuses to post her lecture slides which is very inconsiderate for those of us with unstable home environments. Awful
Kasie did a good job presenting the material about the inner workings of the brain. Overall, I enjoyed her lectures and would recommend her to a friend.
Kasie is an amazing professor and I am super happy to have taken this course with her. She's very straightforward in what she expects you to know and gives awesome summary questions at the end of her lectures that even appear on exams! Also, going to office hours was fun especially when she hosted jeopardy for exam reviews.
