If there's any professor you want to choose for Math 6b (or really any other math course), its Shakerian. Has an extremely clear grading criteria and very helpful in office hours. The final was more difficult than most students expected, but he graded it pretty leniently and allowed most students to get an A if they put in the effort. Great prof!
Clear grading criteria and GS was set up extremely well. Course content was fairly simple but the final was super hard. However HW (webwork) was 70% of grade so students didn't have to worry about grade too much. Lectures were super long but extremely informative. Helpful in OH too. You can tell he really cares abt students. Definitely recommend!!
He is amazing at explaining complicated math concepts. He has clean, neat, and organized notes and is really good during office hours. The midterms and finals can be difficult, but he is a generous grader and office hours help a ton!
Throughout the quarter the work was not bad. There were no tests since we were online. But, the lectures were sooo painfully long and he talks very slowly. The homework on webwork took a decent amount of time. Throughout the quarter we had quizzes on webwork with no time limit which did not prepare us well for the final.
He was really nice and I tried really hard in his class. But towards the end he was in a bit of a hurry to teach us everything because he kinda lost track of how fast the quarter was going.
This class was quite easier than other math classes I've taken but like most math classes, there is quite a lot of homework. The lectures take about two hours each and he gives out two of them every week which go with the HW and is a big part of your grade. Go to Math lab if you need help and can't make it to the professor or TA's office hours.
He's a caring professor who wants you to do well in his class. He posts lecture videos twice a week and they're kind of long but if you watch them and do all the homework, you'll do well on his quizzes and tests.
Professor Shakerian was one of the kindest and most accommodating professors with the pandemic. He has very detailed lectures, clear expectations, and he really cares about his students! He was also super accessible through email and office hours. Overall, really recommend his class:)
Really easy to get a good grade. Most of the points come from HW assignments. Even if you don't do good on tests/quizzes you will probably still get an A. Office hours are really helpful for asking HW questions and he explains concepts well. Lecture videos are posted twice per week and usually a little over an hour long.
Math 3B with professor Shakerian was by far the easiest math class I've ever taken. The grading breakdown is made up in a way that it's almost impossible to do bad (the class average was a 92 this quarter). Moreover, the professor is a really nice and caring guy and will provide great help if you need it.
Shakerian is a nice teacher, but his lectures are way too long and can definitely be more concise. His grading weights are really nice because almost 70% of your grade is homework and 13% is quizzes and the rest is the final. It's not that hard of a class, but you definitely need to put more time in towards the end.
Really really nice professor. Just take it, you won't ever regret!
Like the other raters said, very accommodating & understanding. A fair amount of hw but not too difficult. Some questions were completely different from lecture, though. Quizzes and final were only slightly more difficult than hw. Would take again!
The most accomodating professor during the COVID-19 crisis. He listened to student feedback CONSTANTLY and adjusted accordingly. There was a LOT of homework and the final was fairly difficult but his lectures were quite clear. Professor Shakerian is one of the most compassionate professors in my opinion.
Professor Shakerian made helpful accommodations during the covid19 situation. His lectures went over a lot of material but was easy to understand if you studied it. Probably one of the hardest lower div math courses I've taken but that's because he really wants you to learn.
Such a sweet professor and very approachable. Cares about his students and is very accommodating. Definitely would recommend
One of the nicest and most caring professors I have ever had. He truly wants you to do well and is always there to help. Heis tests are fair and he gives you a lot of helpful practice problems and hints. I always take his classes if I have the option:)
Super nice guy, excellent teacher, fair. Pre-writes part of the notes on tablet then completes in lect so that you cover a lot of material each class. He posted the notes and solutions after so expectations were clear. Long homework assignments that were worth little (10%) with additional practice problems that made up majority of exam probs.
Shaya truly cares about his students. Aside from the material being easy, his lectures are extremely detailed and the practice tests are splitting images of the actual tests. He provides a BUNCH of practice problems which is super helpful. Weekly quizzes were also exceptionally easy!n Definitely take his class if given the opportunity.
Amazing as a human being and a solid lecturer. He really cares about his students and tries very hard for his students to do well. The content of the course is very difficult and it can be tough to get through. Not a great deal of homework. Lectures can be complicated. Great person overall, but not the greatest professor specifically.
Had him for an 8am. He was a little quiet and boring as a lecturer, but his notes were mostly very clear and his office hours were super useful. His homework was a bit hard, but the quizzes in Section were very easy and his midterm and final were fair.
He is a super nice professor. Lectures are not heavy, and he is good at explaining every proof in detail. Midterms and finals are chosen from homework and practice exam, so basically it is not hard to get a good grade.
Excellent professor, his slides are really helpful and as others have said he really does care that you understand his lectures. Long midterms, but that's alright because his lecture notes are so detailed you're gonna be fine.
Very caring professor. Being a math major, I have encountered many professors, but Shaya cares about his students' learning and understanding. He is available to help and his lectures show all the details of the solution to a problem. One of the best Math professors' in Santa Barbara. His midterms may be long but he does it to check understanding.
