I am not too sure why Professor Kruvand has gotten such bad reviews. When I took her class, she was firm but fair about the material. It helped me a lot, and she was always willing to guide people through it. Her class helped me realize how much I enjoyed journalism. Another thing I enjoyed about her was she always remembered her students :)
This wasn't my fav class, but she's pretty nice and the lecture material is super easy. She tells you to buy the textbook, but you don't need it. She can be a bit of a harsh grader, but she lets you turn in rough drafts of the 2 heaviest weighted assignments and leaves feedback, which is super helpful. Workload is very manageable.
She is the rudest person I have ever met in my life. Extremely harsh on grading. Her instructions are not clear, but her critical comments can be super long. I do not recommend her ever!!! If I could rate below 0, I would. Just NO!!!
I'm not sure why Prof Kruvand has such bad reviews on here. I honestly loved her and felt that I learned a lot from her class. She gives very thorough and helpful feedback on all assignments, and the assignments themselves aren't even super difficult. She adapted to online school really well and is always open for feedback on her teaching style.
She grades kind of tough. I got F's for two assignments. Very unclear guidelines and feedback. But she did start to relax on the grading late in the quarter, I think someone may have talked to her about this cause after that I got B's and one A- on the assignments. Overall, she's not horrible just tough on us for Zoom university.
Professor Kruvand is a tough grader. I was struggling with submitting my best work yet still getting B's. I went to her office hours and she was so nice and caring. Her critique can come off harsh, and she knows that, but if you really get to know her she's awesome. Taken virtually in Spring- basically, you submit one assignment a week.
Professor Kruvand is very interesting. She can come off harsh, but if you make time to talk to her, she will come across a lot clearer. I took this class virtually in Spring and it was basically one giant group project- which was really hard to plan considering my group had to zoom to get anything done. The subject matter was interesting and useful
Professor Kruvand was probably one of the toughest graders Ive encountered at UCSB. She gives very detailed feedback on assignments. Some people might find this to be too critical, but she did help improve my writing a lot. Even though she might seem intimidating, shes always there to help, and is actually pretty nice once you get to know her
Professor Kruvand is a tough grader that gives out at least one assignment per week. Her feedback is really critical and can come off as rude at times. If you get easily offended by criticism, then you shouldn't take her classes. She's really passionate about her field, but people hate her for it :/
Probably one of the worst teachers I've had. I am almost done with my online class and she is a very critical grader but not in a good way. The lectures are just slides and very hard to learn from. The way she portrays her feedback is aggressive and rude. It makes you not want to ask questions. It feels like she is insulting you instead of teaching
Only 3 weeks into remote learning and all her feedback is extremely unconstructive. Unclear about grading criteria and feedback seems biased/opinionated. Seems to know what she's talking about but extremely difficult to please and will pick apart mistakes instead of helping you improve. Extremely rigid and her tone is often belittling.
If you somehow get to meet her outside of class (very unlikely), she's actually kind of a nice person. As a teacher though, she's passive aggressive when you try to participate in class but she wonders why no one participates. Her assignments are pretty extra and I think she grades a bit on personal preference.
Hands down the worst professor I've had at UCSB. Incredibly rude and will take any opportunity to make you look bad in front of the class. Her feedback is not constructive. She's impossible to please. Do not take her classes.
Easily the worst teacher I have ever said. I was the Editor of my school paper yet I still have over 50 comments on all of my articles. She is the rudest teacher, and will act like the information is obvious when she has never taught it to us. She always has another comment to add. I do not recommend taking this class with her as the profesor.
not the type of teacher who likes when students add in to the discussion. If you add in to the discussion she has a rebuttal as to why she disagrees with what you're saying. Pro-tip if you take her class, sit in the front, she'll like you more, but prepare for her to use you as an example for almost everything.
Most annoying teacher I've had my entire 15 years of going to school. She's a grumpy old lady and has very strong opinions. Her voice alone irks me. The amount of comments she makes on your papers are hilarious. Everything is her way or the high way, and has a very specific style she wants her students to write in. Doesn't grade hard. Just annoying
Kruvand is a horrible professor. People were afraid to ask her questions because she always answered passive aggressively and was even rude. She is an unfair grader because she was impossible to satisfy. Every time I got notes on my papers I would make the necessary changes and still miss points. It seems like she grades on her personal preference.
so many papers but I honestly didn't try hard but got a B+. easy class but the professor is annoying (talks down whenever you try to participate). she asks everyone's major and would keep asking about it the ENTIRE qr. get ready to hear, "you should change your major" from her if you can't answer any of your major related questions.
She is knowledgable in PR but she can't teach. She is unclear what she is looking for and is unnecessarily harsh with her feedback. She reads off her slides and is not engaging at all. Talks down on students when they try to participate.
Stay away. She seems to know what she is talking about but has no teaching ability. Is really mean with feedback and unhelpful. She talks down to all the students and her lectures are very boring
Wish I had seen her reviews from her previous Uni before taking this class. Makes a lot of questionable/harsh/prejudiced comments. Gives a lot of feedback, but not helpful feedback. Seems knowledgable in the PR field, but PR skills don't translate to teaching abilities. Can be personable at times, but all in all not a good experience.
