He doesn't get to actual calc until like week 6 or 7. The lectures are awful, but the nice thing about math classes is that you can learn everything you need to on your own on like kahn academy. I watched his lectures at 3x speed (2x sounded like he was talking like a normal person) just to get the gist of what he wanted us to know specifically.
If you took AP Calc, the beginning of the course will be super easy and review. It lets you see how overly complicated he makes things. But, the final is 50% of the grade and covers the newer material. He's a really a bad lecturer but genuinely a nice person. I liked him but not his teaching. Don't bother going to class, watch yt videos and do CLAS
He is a great professor who knows math well and really cares students. He is extremely patient and helpful especially during office hours. He could be a little bit nervous and serious during lectures, but he is actually pretty kind and friendly. If you really want to learn something about math, definitely go to his office hours.
His lectures were not so good. He confused me a lot. He made the class seem harder than it needed it to be. However, his midterms were do-able. Just not his final. His final was hard. He was really easy on homework. Like only 10 problems every week. Also, sections are mandatory. I think that is all. Oh actually, he was a nice dude.
I dunno why he received such low rating. Nice caring guy. Lectures are actually pretty good, in contrast to what the other rating claimed. Integral itself is a difficult topic, so you may not be able to catch the meaning of the functions and equations during the lectures when you first hear of that. Go to office hours or CLAS if you have questions.
His class was really boring and if it weren't for my previous knowledge on calc then I probably would have flunked. His lectures were hard to sit through and the homework didn't correlate with the lecture most of the time. Also don't expect him to round up any grades such as an 89.8% or higher.
idk why Prof Lopez has such negative reviews, at worst he's a mediocre lecturer. He has alot of positives and I would highly recommend taking him. He drops a lot of stuff and bases quizzes on the hw, which are pretty easy. His office hours are amazing, he knows a lot about the material and explains it in depth. Hes very nice and I def recommend him
uses diction that is much too heavy and causes students to get very confused. Very nice guy, but does not understand how to explain things in a way that students will understand.
Lopez was a so-so lecturer and used a lot of high-versed jargon, which made this course even more difficult than it needed to be. Very difficult final containing challenge questions. However, he's super knowledgeable about math and quite helpful during office hours.
Great Professor.
He CAN'T teach at all. Brings pre-made piece of a paper and copies everything on it. If you ask for help on something he hasn't prepared he won't have the answer. 3 midterms 1 final. I wouldn't have mind the tests if he gave us a practice test that was as hard as the actual test because the practice tests gives you a false sense of security. CLAS!!
I had Lopez for Math 3B and he is hands down the worst math teacher I have ever had in my life. Attending lecture did not help me understand the material, it just made me more confused. He's unable to explain concepts in a concise manner. You're better off learning from CLAS and Khan academy; that's how I got through this class.
Okay so i read other posts and they all posed him as such a bad teacher but honestly he is a great professor. And the midterms (there are three sadly) are just like the review. Simple and easy. But the final, was 10x harder so study up well. Good lecturer and makes class fun, although its not on purpose. TAKE HIM
Great at math but absolutely no clue how to teach. All explanations are unnecessarily convoluted. Mostly theoretical instead of concrete examples. Speaks like he's reading from a textbook. 3-6 questions on tests. Hw 2 times a week, unlimited attempts. Go to CLAS+section! Tests made of weird questions instead of actual topics. take 34B if bio major
Professor Lopez is funny and his lecture is clear and well organized! Highly recommend! Its better to talk with him in person during office hour or after classes. He is willing to explain everything patiently. His exams are easy and only have four or five questions.
He is a nice professor. His class is clear and he always teaches slow, so the lecture is easy to understand. There are lots of homework, but for MATH 3B (2nd quarter of calculus), which is about topics that needs a lot of practice, more homework means you need less time to find practicing problem by yourself. Work hard, and you'll be good.
This professor is very nice. He talked slowly in class but his solutions are clear. He is patient to answer any question after class (even it takes a long time). He made additional office hours before exams. His exams are not hard if you listened to lectures carefully (similar to practice exams). His class fits students with good math ability.
Terrible teacher. He purposely puts challenge questions on the exam and thinks it's funny when you point it out, then he acts confused and disappointed after everyone gets them wrong. His exams are extremely difficult compared to the lectures and homework, and it takes him almost half an hour to poorly explain just one question in office hours.
Terrible. He doesn't know how to explain concepts. His tests are hard and his final..I have no words. I'm not even a stupid person. I do really well in school but this class wasn't it. The final covers material we never went over in class or is even in the book. He writes his tests as if he's a great lecturer. I'm scared for my grade and my GPA.
He is absolutely horrible at explaining things and is not very approachable. He goes over easy examples in class but the exams and homework are much more difficult. Not enough time for tests for the amount of work he wants shown (including WRITTEN explanations). Be ready to learn on your own or just don't take him at all if you really want to pass.
He is a terrible public speaker. He may be good at math, but he's unfit to be an educator. His lessons are difficult to pay attention to & he isn't good at teaching you how to do the math. He isn't good at answering questions, he answers AROUND them. His exams are hard & he assigns a lot of tough homework, then tells you not to email him about it.
Lectures have nothing to do with midterm material. Bad at explaining, confusing and unorganized. I think it's his first year teaching so hopefully he gets better, but I'm scared for my grade in this class
His lectures are awful. He goes through slides too quickly and moves on before you can write anything down. Does not explain how to go through or think through problems, instead just throws them up there and you're lucky if you catch a glimpse. He's unclear and confusing. Would give a 0/5 rating if it were an option.
Talks slowly during lecture. Doesn't explain anything. Things talked about in lecture have nothing to do with what is on homework/midterms. Unorganized. Would NOT take again.
