Never rated a professor before. Had to do it for Vallis. The most kickass teacher I've ever had at UCSB (and I'm graduating this quarter). YOU NEED TO TAKE HIS CLASS. He's passionate, engaging and so incredible. Seriously, do it. It's really easy too.

Roy Vallis is the BEST professor at UCSB hands down. In fact he's so great I enrolled for his grammar course and I hate grammar. Interesting, logical, witty, smart, funny, and just plain REAL. He's the man.

My absolute favorite professor at UCSB. He's very personable, funny, and above all a great teacher. The things he taught and showed us were very interesting. He also realizes the fact the Writing is a stupid class and constantly makes fun of it. Let's you choose your own topic for research paper which is great

Omg best prof ever! He even said he has the attention span of the dog in up...squirrel! So you could side track him easily and have a blast of a convo. I asked him about doing a 199 class with me for etymology and he got super excited...a yr later we're making it happen and he's so excited that I am now a pilot class for an actual class...passion!

I had him for writing 1 and writing 2 and he's the craziest, coolest, most ridiculously open minded professor I have ever had in my life!! Love ROY! :)

Vallis is a nice guy! He cancelled class alot of times, which is not appealing to me because I actually looked forward to attending class.! But his class is so easy! im taking writing 2 with him this qrt, i took last qrt, and he was just great. EASY class. no lie. butu learn so much!

Superb teacher. You have to take this professor if you attend UCSB. He enlighten you about so many aspects of life you never knew about. Extremely reasonable and approachable. Great person and a great guy. Fantastic Class.

Awesome awesome awesome teacher. Makes it super basic, he's got tons of interesting things to say, he doesn't hold class a lot of the time. No bull, he's super chill and just an awesome human being. Take writing 1 with him if you can!

layed back class, a little bit of reading, mostly discussions in class where you argue about everything, good professor

Roy is an outstanding person. He is great with inspiring your writing skills to come out from the deep, dark, depths of your mind and put on paper. "Define. Define. Define," (Vallis) everything and you'll do just fine.

Vallis is an awesome teacher. His sense of Humor makes the class worth going to. He makes sure that you leave understanding everything that we went over in Lecture. I encourage everyone to take Him.

amazing teacher, definitely take writing 50 (or any writing) with him. hes interesting, understanding, doesnt hold class about 1/3 of the time, shows good movies, and follows them up with good discussions. and he understands that writing is a bs class. GO VALLIS!

One of the best professors you can ask for. He uses examples to make his class think. He can relate to many situations and knows how to teach while keeping it interesting. He really is the best professor for this class.

I have taken two classes with Roy, and he is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's super laid-back with everything from due dates to getting out of class early. If you like discussion based classes then he is your man. Class time is literally spent chatting it up about whatever, he loves to go off on tangents. I love Roy!!

vallis is one of the best teachers ive ever had.He is so chill and understanding.He knows this class is a requirement but actually makes it fun to be in.we rarely stay for the whole 2 hrs and get to watch some cool movies.This class has minimum work, fair grading, and interesting discussions.For all you guys who have to take writing, TAKE IT W/HIM!

Vallis is my boy. He hooks it up with the grades and probably has the most unique style of teaching but it is the best ever. Take it

The best and most useful class I took in my 4 years at UCSB. He is the kind of teacher that other teachers hate because he is smart, funny, engaging and brillant. Everyone should take a class from him.

It was hard writing 30 pages, but he coached me through the class the best way any teacher could have and I recommend any person to take his class if at all possible. He rocked. Thanks Vallis.

Professor Vallis is easy-going. Unlike some other Writing professors, he tried his best to help students pass the class. He encourages discussion, which enhance the good classroom atmosphere. He screens movies as a way to teach Writing - a very good idea!
