Wei's grading approach can seem vague and harsh, but exams were given lots of leeway in terms of partial credit. She gave lots of info on upcoming exams. Lectures are good, if you are willing to put effort into following along. The worst thing about this class is webwork, which is convoluted and frustrating compared to problems from the textbook.
The first two midterms were absurdly easy if you are decent at integration, final was tough. These 3 tests make up 80% of your grade so if you mess up on one you're screwed. She tells you what every problem is going to be on the test and allows you to bring a notecard, so studying at least a little and developing a notecard goes a long way.
I got 90 in the midterms and 94 in the final, but get a B+. There are only exams with very few questions and the HW to get points. She expects you to learn beyond what is told and to remember every detailed sentence and put it in the final. She even curves down. Other professors got a median of an A- or B+, she gave a median of C+......
Overall she isn't that bad as they say She does have a thick accent but she seems very enthusiastic about teaching albeit lectures were very hard to follow. The exams weren't that bad and she tells you exactly what kind of questions will be on the exams and allows a cheat sheet. She doesn't have any other resources besides this though.
Exams are incredibly difficult and notes are hard to understand
Concepts were taught in an ill-mannered fashion. Extremely difficult to follow; homework was nothing like the lectures. If going in without knowledge of linear algebra, outside help is necessary.
Absolute God awful professor. Worst professor I have ever taken in my whole college career. Lecture were useless, literally was learning the class from khan academy the whole quarter. final was a lot harder than it should have, by the 3rd hour of the exam I wanted to slam my head against the desk, and she cucked me cuz she also made it worth 40%
My first C ever LOL. I found lectures incredibly confusing, and the homework could be very long at times. Despite attending CLAS and following lectures, I could never find myself properly prepared for the exams. The TAs do grade fairly nice though, but not nice enough to supplement the fact that your tests make up a majority of your score.
Wei's lectures use arbitrary definitions and not many important examples. The homework is dissonant with the examples she uses in lectures. I attended almost every lecture and she mentions key concepts that she puts on the midterms and final. Needed supplemental learning through outside sources, but answered any of my questions after class.
don't ever take her class! Midterms are 40% and the final is 40%, with the other 20 being HW. I got an overall 79.67 didn't even add 0.33 and ended up with a C+!!!! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL
I almost started crying in the exam hall because the questions were so difficult. Numbers designed to be hard to compute, no calculator allowed. If you want to experience some devastation during a 3 hour long final, I recommend taking this class.
This class was a nightmare. Lectures were useless. Lots of time outside of class needed. The class is purely based on exams, which is difficult for people who struggle to take exams. There was not nearly enough time to complete the midterms. Test heavy. Unfair and stingy grading, with them being extremely harsh and condescending. Definitely avoid.
Take her class if you want to fail on your 4A.
Professor seems fairly average at first, until you noticed that her lectures are very bad and unclear (you have to teach yourself). Additionally she had 2 midterms which I did really well on. However, the final is nothing like anything we covered before and too difficult for what it should be, also it's worth 40% of the grade. Stay away!!
Unreasonably difficult final that did not match the practice problems at all. Lectures are difficult to keep up with and I ended up teaching myself. She curves the grades down and is stingy with points.
An outstanding smart teacher. I did not hope so much before I took it cuz the rmp score was low. However, I must admit that she's good at teaching 4B. HW on webwork has unlimited chances. She's patient whenever I got a question. Yeah the final is hard. She got a strict grading scale like 95A before but now it's the normal 93A & we are all good.
I think her class is pretty easy because after she talks about the concept and the process, she usually generalize some formula or general solutions for us to memorize, which can be used directly in the exam. There are four quizzes, a midterm and a final. Quizzes and midterm were pretty easy, and we had plenty of time to finish those.
Teaching is average. Homework is okay. Final is hard no joke. Curves the whole class down after posting the grades into the system, why? I should have a B+ but end up with a B, I have a friend who has 94.9% overall and got an A-, this is just sad. Why would you do this to students??? AVOID HER CLASS. 99% A+ 95% A 92% A- 90% B+
My grade was down curved an entire 4%. She was supposed to drop a homework according to the syllabus and didnt. Who knows if she dropped a quiz like she said she would. The material was not complicated until she made an impossible final with enough time for too many questions worth almost half the grade and then down curved at the end. 0/10 so bad
Her teaching is pretty average. The biggest issue is that the teacher does not communicate well. Beware of changes made to the syllabus, grades, etc. Because she will change something and not communicate it at all.
Hard class, changes things without warning us.
Beware of the teacher rounding down your grade at the end of the quarter and she randomly removed a homework drop at the end of the quarter without warning.
She's a great lecturer but really messed up the entire class with grades. The final was significantly harder than anything seen in the class (not even sure we learned some of the stuff), she didn't follow her syllabus and drop assignments, and curved down the class! Still have no idea why profs punish students for doing well. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Not recommended especially for online classes.
