Mr chapman is the greatest math teacher ever.
He was an alright teacher, although strange for math because he was heavy on remembering definitions. When I studied I studied the definitions more than the math. Take the homework seriously. If you don't do it you won't pass.
Nice and caring professor. Willing to help with no questions asked. Went to his OH for help and went to CLAS. Lecture goes by quick and he tries to explain his lectures really quick. Usually have a few typos and mistakes but he addresses it right away. Great professor.
I took him in the fall as well and completely bombed his class. I retook the class in the spring and literally he changed everything. His lectures were easier to follow, iclickers were implemented helped with overall grade and gave a very clear idea of what was expected of you on final and midterm. I would take another class with him now.
Took this class in the fall, and was one of the people who rated him really low. I retook the class with him last spring quarter and his format completely changed. No more 20 true/false questions, or 10 in verbatim definitions. He now has a clear grading structure and he won't quiz you on things he never taught. Midterms and final were very fair.
Chapman gets a lot of negative reviews, but he isn't an awful professor. His slides are very wordy and he does not get his point across clearly BUT his tests are very straightforward - no tricks or confusion at all! Just follow his study guides and you will do fine. Go to office hours too. Finally, keep up with the online homework assignments.
Many people give Chapman a bad review, but after having him as a professor twice, I can say that his teaching is definitely getting better. He does care about his students and is helpful if you go to him outside of lecture.
His lectures are really hard to follow because he puts all the calculations on powerpoint slides & he goes really fast. There are tons of iClicker questions every lecture & sometimes you miss them because you're still writing. Tests are hard & he is picky about how you write your work. Extra credit on the final bumped me from a C to an A+.
Easy class if you've taken calculus before but difficult if you haven't. He has a lot of iclicker questions in class so make sure to attend. A few lectures before the final he basically outlines the entire test of what types of questions to expect so it was super easy. Can be annoying to listen to.
Chapman? Definitely GG. Super easy, homework exactly like tests. No examples or notes required or needed. Tests are half true or false and definitions. OP curve on final and midterm. Dropped final from 120 points to 91, GG.
Chapman is a brilliant guy, but a trash professor. Aside from that though, he thoroughly enjoys laughing at his own lame jokes and has an annoying nasally voice that makes it hard to focus. Tests are EXTREMELY easy as you're told explicitly all the topics on it. If you've taken highschool calc. and paid minimal attention, you'll be aiight.
Lectures are pointless but required for iclicker points. He doesn't explain, just reads off the slides and the slides don't have all the steps to working out the problems. His voice is monotone and nasally. The book is just as confusing as the lectures BUT YOU REALLY NEED THE BOOK FOR THE HOMEWORK! If you aren't good at math you will struggle. :(
I was actually a bit nervous when I read the reviews on here before the course, but I'm so glad I kept going! Chapman is such a great professor! He is so kind and eager to help you if you actually go to him. He tells you what to expect on the test so there's no reason for you not to pass. I recommend CLAS as well! Take him!!
34A. He mostly goes off the lectures which in my opinion I don't mind. He comes off as tough but comes in CLUTCH with final grades. You have to work yourself in class and really study but honestly it wasn't a bad class.
The class is average. His teaching is average. He is hot.
Chapman was a boring lecturer and made simple topics more complicated than they needed to be. If you took some calc in high school, this class should be easy enough, but otherwise, it will be confusing at times. His final was ridiculously hard.
The professor goes over the material well. I actually do not understand why so many people are complaining. There were sometimes typos on his slides, but he still took the time to explain the problems on the chalkboard. Great professor, enjoyed the class.
Chapman is incredibly bad at explaining and almost every single one of his slides had a typo in it. His final was way harder than the midterms, but he did wind up curving it like crazy (probably because otherwise most students would have failed).
Wanna take his class? Find someone to help you with studies or think again.
He's not that bad guys. I remember he was always willing to help but he indeed doesn't know how to explain stuffs clearly. Which is both sad and funny.
He is the worst math teacher I've ever had. He just reads the slides and doesn't explain anything and expect you to have already known the material coming in. I do not recommend, only upside is if you get a C but you put in effort he will automatically bump it to a B.
I highly recommend avoiding him at all cost. If you did not know cal before this class then you would have to learn it yourself or fail. The review about how it was college freshman complaining has no accuracy to it at all. This class had no direction and most of the time the professor had to correct his mistakes in the slides.
A lot of people don't like Chapman because they're freshman that complain about how hard college is. Ask him questions. Tell him if you're struggling. He's a good person and knows his stuff!'
This is the worst teacher I ever had, I don't understand his materials at all! And he gives most ridiculous curve.
