The instructor always makes good preparation for class. And the clarity of the teaching is excellent! The room is a bit crouded for 150 students. The content is very comprehensive. I've improved a lot.

Instructor was very clear and thorough with teaching of course concepts in lectures. Provided lots of help to students whenever they needed it and had a very extreme passion for the course material evidenced by her lectures. Would definitely take a class with Instructor again. Challenged me in many ways but overall not very difficult.

I love her enthusiasm! It ALMOST makes me excited to do math. I also really like the interaction between students & herself, it makes the class more interesting. Colored chalk makes things clearer. I thought that the difficulty was manageable, great course!

One of the strengths is her energy and enthusiasm about the course. She manages to keep everything captivating. The lessons are always clear and planned well. The course is definitely challenging but rewarding. Tougher than what I expected but I like that we are dealing with real-world situations.

Professor Pfaff is super nice and helpful. She really wants for you to learn. Lectures are surprisingly fun and interesting. If you come to lecture, study hard, and do all of the homework, you will do well.

There aren't enough words to express how much I truly don't like her teaching methods. My goodness. She feels it's more important to finish the lesson than to take questions from students, and even when she does, the answers are very vague, as she expects you to know as much as she does. She is the reason I despise calculus now.

Pfaff made me dread taking 34b. She gives pop quizzes out during lecture like Oprah gives out free cars, and is almost impossible to approach without seeming like you are wasting her time and breath. She isn't good at teaching either and CLAS was the only reason I did well. If you see Pfaff's name on a course, stay a million miles away from it.

I'm not one to think poorly of teachers, so it takes a lot for me to say that she is the worst teacher I've ever had. She is not able to explain the material and interrupts class multiple times a day to snap at students. I had to teach this class to myself. The only mercy is her curve. If you see her name do not choose her, just wait a quarter.

She has great intentions, but her explanations have a tendency to go right over your head unless you are at her level of understanding. The homework she assigns is rather difficult. Office hours are a big help! You really have to work hard in this class.

Has extremely high expectations and doesn't always communicate those expectations well. Gets frustrated in office hours when you don't get a concept right away, extremely condescending and haughty. Homework takes hours every week. The final will take you the full 3 hours, and doesn't curve anything. If you can wait to take this class, do.

You will not understand if you don't read book. Textbook is required with the current edition. The lecture is weak because it follows the book but changes to more complicated and is not easy to understand. Only way to pass is reading by yourself. Not recommend.

If you took AP Calc in high school, this class should be a breeze. She puts a lot of time and care into her students and is very eager to help. Her pop quizzes are not hard, but show up to class. Very doable but you need to put in the work. Homework got increasingly difficult to the point of sometimes impossible. Study and LEARN the homework.

I had her for the fall of 2015. She would make errors during class and made her final based on the tedious homework she assigned every week. Would not recommend.

Make sure to attend her lectures, as she gives out pop quizzes once or twice a week. The webwork questions she assigns for homework are nothing like her test questions. Her TAs were very helpful, I suggest going to their office hours instead of hers.

Fall 2015 was Dr. Pfaff's first quarter here at UCSB. Really nice, but made mistakes solving problems almost every lecture. She had to be corrected by students almost every time. Office hours were not much help. Khan Academy was the only reason I passed the class.
