He is terribly boring, and goes over 10 examples per topic, without actually teaching anything, I personally would avoid like the plague. Probably my least favorite proffesor I've had at UCSB.
AMAZING. Ratner is very passionate and caring professor. The grade breakdown of this class was very intimidating because it was heavy on one midterm and the final. If you go to lectures, read the readings, and study a fair amount you should do great in this class.
Ratner is an amazing professor and genuinely cares about his students. He is so amazing, I had to come on here and write a positive review for him! His class was interesting and clear. For tests, he doesn't try to trick you. Class is graded only by a few things. He is a really awesome professor and teaches really well. Super caring & wants to help
Ratner is a great professor. 10B overall is not too tricky of a class, but it is statistics. Ratner is great about answering questions and his lectures are clear. He clearly wanted us to succeed.
Ratner is a really good professor and tests more than fairly. He does not record lectures so it is a really good idea to show up to class. His in-depth lectures tend to be pretty tedious and he talks real slow. I found myself having a really hard time paying attention in class. Tests are pretty easy though!
ratner is one of the best upperdiv psych profs. lectures and exams are very straightforward in terms of material. he uses a lot of studies to explain terminology, which is helpful to understand the meaning of the term. assigns reading that is tested on exams but they're interesting so i would say j do them. highly recommend taking this class!
One of the best professors that I have had. Very understanding and you will know what is required of you. Tests reflect well what is taught in class and are not meant to trick you. Weekly lab and homework assignments, one midterm and one final. Overall, an easy A if you pay attention and do your assignments.
Loved his lectures. Pretty engaging and easy to follow. His quizzes are straight from his lectures so there's no surprises/trick questions. Grade consisted of 8 quizzes (10 points each) - online 15 minutes due every sunday. Timing can seem a little stressful but youll be fine honestly.
Really nice guy, straightforward grading and lectures were engaging.
Ratner's one of the best professors I've had at UCSB so far. He's super chill and has extremely clear grading criteria. He makes statistics almost entertaining and is very clear about the content that will be on the exams. I recommend doing textbook practice problems with lecture slides open next to you, and you'll easily get an A no doubt
Honestly the best upper-div psychology professor I have had thus far. He is VERY accommodating (especially during this pandemic). His lectures are so clear, concise, and easy to understand. His examples also make it very easy to understand the concepts. His quizzes are very easy and based on lectures + readings. SOLID PROFESSOR!
Professor Ratner was so kind and compassionate, especially about handling things during the pandemic. Class consisted of watching his 2 lectures a week, reading 1-3 readings, and then taking a weekly quiz in which he dropped the lowest score. The quizzes were timed but open note, which was very fair. Definitely the best class I've taken in a while!
I loved taking PSY152 with Professor Ratner! He is definitely one of the most compassionate professors I've had at UCSB. He is really understanding given the pandemic and he made the resources needed to succeed in the class available throughout the quarter. Overall, one of my favorite courses I've taken thus far in college!
Ratner is an amazing lecturer and professor who is very generous to his students during this pandemic. He drops the lowest quiz score and didnt require purchasing any textbook, which is a huge plus. We definitely need more professors like Ratner. If youre interested in the Social Psychology field, you definitely should take him!
This class had very interesting material that was applicable to current society. Professor Ratner was really kind and accommodating due to COVID-19. Lectures are easy to understand, articles are short and doable, and quizzes are really straightforward. As long as you watch lectures and take notes, you'll be set!
Prof Ratner is awesome! He made a lot of accommodations due to the remote nature of the course (i.e no textbook required) and is a really caring professor. Lectures and weekly quizzes were very straightforward, no trick questions so as long as you watch the lectures and read the articles, you'll get an A/B.
Dr. Ratner is such a kind and caring professor, and he really wants his students to succeed. Even though it's statistics and it can be boring, he really cares about it and presents the material in an engaging way. He's accessible over email and is great in office hours, either just to have a conversation with or get class help. Highly recommend!
Fair professor: the material he tests you on is pretty fair. He made lecture attendance optional, so attendance grade came out of lab attendance. Extremely accessible out of class, and made concepts clear if you went to office hours. You have to actually try to fail this class, but to get an A you need to work for it. Would definitely recommend.
He's very kind. Lectures are boring, but it's stats. He makes it as engaging as possible.
Professor Ratner is extremely boring and not engaging. I found it hard to stay focused for the hour and 15 min long lectures. He posts his lecture slides after class which is nice, so I found myself just taking my notes out of class, which honestly is faster. Homework is due in class and graded for accuracy so I had to actually go to class.
Sweet teacher and wants to get to know the students which is awesome. There is a midterm, short paper (super easy), and a final. The lectures can be dry and his teaching can kind of get boring. I didn't really like going to class but the things on lecture is better understood when you go to class. Tests aren't that bad at all
His lectures are well organized, but often longer than they need to be and it's very hard to pay attention because the material is super dry. He made a few mistakes that definitely confused me and other students. You need the textbook to do homework. The lab section with my TA helped me the most, I would 100% recommend going to that over lecture.
He's an amazing professor. He is very willing to help and is a nice guy. Very intelligent and understanding. If you need help, he'll give it.
Professor Ratner is a great, organized professor. He is super willing to help and encourages questions. His lectures are laid out well and he tries his best to make the subject more interesting. There is homework but it is helpful for review. The tests are fair. I would definitely recommend his class.
