Laughed at her own jokes when no one else did.
Rachel wasn't a great lecturer. You basically just have to read the textbook because she just goes on tangents. Also her midterm was the hardest exam I've ever taken. She questioned our previous education. But her TAs were good, which was the only good thing about the course.
missed my final but she let me take it at a different date
She is genuine in her own studies and research, but I don't think she's a good fit to teach students. This was reflected by the midterm where everyone received 20 extra points to even out the distribution for the class, since the midterm was way to difficult. If you want a challenge, go for it but I don't recommend taking classes with her at all...
This is a hard class, and Lin does talk fast. But, there are ample office hours and an Ed Board. You NEED office hours and quiz section to succeed, but she's passionate and knowledgeable. Also we got a 4 page cheat sheet for the final and she understood she made the midterm too hard, adding a curve and not making the final nearly as challenging.
Hard to understand, lectures hard to follow. Office hours mandatory to complete homework. Midterm and Final difficult and has intricacies.
Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had at UW. Her lectures are impossible to follow - she goes too fast and her explanations are unclear. Her exams are also impossible - the midterm avg was so low that she had to add 20 points to everyone's grade. Also, the prep material she gave for the midterm was incredibly easy which was very misleading.
Avoid her at all costs. Honestly if you can get away with not taking the class with her, even if you have to push it back a quarter, do it. Terrible lecturer, you are better off reading from the textbooks. Tests were disgustingly hard (midterm average was so low she added 20% to everyone's grade). Worst prof I've ever had.
Better off reading the textbook by yourself, much of her lectures are unclear and too fast to fully process. Worst professor I have had since attending UW
Lectures are super unclear, probably better off just reading the textbook. The weekly assignments are impossible if you don't go to all the office hours.
She made it the toughest class I've taken at UW. Really friendly but expects students to clearly understand every concept after showing a couple of slides. Extremely fast-paced and required lots of outside reading and Googling for HWs. HW scoring is black & white since it is all theoretical proofs: slip on one part, you'll lose almost all points
I do not recommend taking this course with Prof. Lin. She just scribbles all over the board and does not explain so the class understands the material. The final is tomorrow and we got our midterm back last week and are still waiting on 2/4 homework scores that will be part of the final. 130B one of most impt classes here, do not take with her.
Lectures are useful. Some homeworks were tough, and not enough time on midterm or final, but you do learn. Nice class.
Prof. Lin makes this class pretty easy. Don't bother going to class, though. Everything you need to know is in the textbook. Class was heavily curved at the end.
She doesn't really explain a lot and her accent makes her hard to understand. She gives better explanation during office hrs for sure. Class can be useful, but I stopped going since it was that hard to understand her. Textbook is better. hw is from textbook. Tests are tough but curved. If you want an A do all the hard questions from textbook
Useful lectures, but make sure you read the book
One of the best CS professors. Her energy makes the material very interesting and her clarity allows for easy understanding. She designs her class to challenge her students and her homework and tests reflects that. But don't let the difficulty daunt you from taking because if you follow along, you'll learn the material well.
She really doesn't care about her students and her explanations do not change based on the class' understanding. Instead, she repeats the same thing over and over until they give up and pretend they understand or she just tells them to "think about it on their own time." Probably one of the worst professors I've had at UCSB.
She's a great teacher. Clear and concise. The subjects she's taught me have both been really hard ones, and I have yet she managed to make them understandable. Your grades are based against other students, which I feel is fair. HW are worth more than test. Very approachable and posts lecturesextra documents online.
Lectures are long and boring. There is hardly any effort to garner interest. She is unhelpful and unsympathetic. Homeworks are hard and she does not adequately prepare you for the typeamount of work they require. Only her second actual undergraduate course. The course material is actually important, but I'd take it with someone else.
She's the worst. You literally lose points from your grade at an exponential rate if you leave problems blank. Doesn't care about students and you basically have to die in order to get an extension. Lectures are excruciatingly painful
