While she is a very nice person and clearly cares about our learning, I didn't enjoy lectures very much. I found them to be often way too fast, littered with unnecessary tangents, circular explanations, and perhaps more than an appropriate amount of time spent talking about study mindsets. Make use of the textbook if you take her class.
Horrendous teacher. 1. Black box grading system. Syllabus is unclear, vague, and insufficient. Exam solutions often not posted afterwards. 2. Constant clerical/grading errors wasted time and caused stress. 3. Lectures were very unclear and difficult to follow. Textbook was not supplementary, but outright substitutional for lecture content.
I think Rachel has improved a lot since the last time she taught this course. Her midterm was appropriately difficult if you did the homeworks and attended lecture. The TAs for this course are really great - make sure to attend office hours and section if you want to succeed. Rachel's lectures can still be very fast paced but make sure you listen.
She was not amazing, lectures made no sense
Laughed at her own jokes when no one else did.
Rachel wasn't a great lecturer. You basically just have to read the textbook because she just goes on tangents. Also her midterm was the hardest exam I've ever taken. She questioned our previous education. But her TAs were good, which was the only good thing about the course.
missed my final but she let me take it at a different date
She is genuine in her own studies and research, but I don't think she's a good fit to teach students. This was reflected by the midterm where everyone received 20 extra points to even out the distribution for the class, since the midterm was way to difficult. If you want a challenge, go for it but I don't recommend taking classes with her at all...
This is a hard class, and Lin does talk fast. But, there are ample office hours and an Ed Board. You NEED office hours and quiz section to succeed, but she's passionate and knowledgeable. Also we got a 4 page cheat sheet for the final and she understood she made the midterm too hard, adding a curve and not making the final nearly as challenging.
Hard to understand, lectures hard to follow. Office hours mandatory to complete homework. Midterm and Final difficult and has intricacies.
Genuinely the worst professor I've ever had at UW. Her lectures are impossible to follow - she goes too fast and her explanations are unclear. Her exams are also impossible - the midterm avg was so low that she had to add 20 points to everyone's grade. Also, the prep material she gave for the midterm was incredibly easy which was very misleading.
Avoid her at all costs. Honestly if you can get away with not taking the class with her, even if you have to push it back a quarter, do it. Terrible lecturer, you are better off reading from the textbooks. Tests were disgustingly hard (midterm average was so low she added 20% to everyone's grade). Worst prof I've ever had.
