Not enough nice things to say about her! I was terrified at the insane number of terms we were supposed to learn (2000+) but she made it possible! Fun, accessible, helpful, genuinely wants you to pass. GO TO THE BONE LAB OUTSIDE OF CLASS. She actually offered me an internship for next quarter and I couldn't be more excited to work with her again!
I had Professor Kurin for both ANTH 121 and ANTH 180A and I cannot say enough kind things about her. Her teaching focuses on actually teaching students instead of preparing us for another exam. She is also an incredibly kind and friendly person. Absolutely love her
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! She's really passionate about what she teaches and she really cares for her students, gives a lot of opportunities to improve grades, and is a rare gem! She has the best humor and is a great storyteller. She really tries to connect with the class rather than just see us as a perm number like most professors do. HIGH RECOMMEND
Definitely best professor I've had at UCSB. Made me interested in Anth and want to add an Anth minor. Great lectures, great opportunities, always reachable, and great attitude. Definitely want to take more classes from her
I've had the pleasure of having Professor Kurin for multiple Anth classes, I specifically look for her when signing up. By far the best Professor I've had at UCSB she's not only an educator, but a mentor and friend who truly cares about her students. Not a harsh grader, she cares more about you understanding the material than worrying about an A.
One of the best professors I have had in my academic career! Professor Kurin is super accessible and understanding, do not take her for granted once you get to take her class.
Professor Kurin is hands down the best professor I have had at UCSB. She truly cares about her students so much and makes sure everyone has a chance to succeed in her class. It is still a rigorous class with lots of memorization involved and most of the material for quizzes is covered in lecture so don't skip class! But I definitely recommend her!
Dr. Kurin is truly a gem in the UCSB Anthropology dept. She lives to teach, and makes a full effort to get to know everyone in her class and recommend research ideas, lab opportunities, extra credit, grad school help or general professionalization advice. She is an outstanding and engaging lecturer, who is extremely knowledgeable in her field
Dr. Kurin is a true gem, I have taken every class she offers and have enjoyed all of them thoroughly. She is extremely well-versed and knowledgable but is also one of my top favorite people as well. She is readily available outside of class for anything you may need and will do whatever is necessary to help you on your journey to success!
I have taken two courses from Dr. Kurin. She is off-the-charts smart. Her classes are challenging, but she is always available to help you along. I will take more of her classes!
Professor Kurin is amazing. She's definitely a little disorganized, and it can sometimes be hard to know what she wants from you. But if you go to class, do the readings, and study hard, you will get an A. She's hilarious and a great lecturer, and will do everything in her power to help you with real-life skills too!
Dr. Kurin is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her teaching style is laid back but effective and her lectures are always interesting. The course is tough so you have to put the work in, but she is always there to help and is very open to questions. Definitely would recommend if you are prepared to study and will take her classes again.
Dr. Kurin's Osteology class is a challenging one but she makes it a great learning environment and really makes sure her students don't get left behind. She's funny and has a great way of teaching. 10/10 would recommend this class and this professor but only if you're willing to put in the work.
Was terrified for this course because it seemed like alot of work but if you go to class and look over the book, you'll pass. The material was really interesting and she makes it's fun to learn every bone in the body. Love her and this course!
Dr. Kurin is one of the best professors I've ever had in addition to one of the best people I've ever met. She loves the material, she cares about you as a person and wants you to succeed in class and in whatever your goals are. She is extremely knowledgable and really works with the students so that the class covers what there's an interest in!
Prof. Kurin is probably the best Anthropology teacher in the entire department. She is incredible. Her wealth of knowledge is amazing! She wants to spread her knowledge to future generations. She loves cracking jokes in class and makes learning the material so enjoyable. She is so humble! She is very direct with her expectations of the class
Professor Kurin is amazing!! She is so smart and very helpful. I would recommend everyone to take a class with her. She really wants her students to succeed and learn.
Great professor, if she likes you. Many of the students in her class speculate that she grades more based on if she likes you than the assignments. Has some anger issues.
Would take a hundred more classes with her. Be dedicated to your major, show your dedication, and she will make the class more than worth your time.
Anth 105 is a mandatory class for all Bioanth which often means a long lecture about basic stuff. Dr. Kurin uses this class as an opportunity to eliminate the biases and social inequalities that many bio anth classes instill in students. She does her best to make sure you understand and keeps you awake with funny diatribes and random music breaks.
This class is easy, though it does not cover human variation. You learn about the history of racism and skimmed over any form of biology that pertains to variation. If you have a basic knowledge of bio and cultural anthropology you should do fine. Unfortunately attendance is mandatory so you have to sit there while she reminds you to be PC
Professor Kurin is an amazing teacher, she wants you to pass more than anything, so she is willing to work with you as long as you communicate with her. She is there as your resource, she wants her students to do well and like her class. You have to be ready to go to EVERY class, and study really hard, but it's all worth it.
Very enthusiastic, informative, and helpful. One of the best professors at UCSB. The class was interesting and Professor Kurin made the made the materials easy to comprehend.
Professor Kurin is the best professor I had at UCSB. She is incredibly enthusiastic, intelligent, hilarious, and informative. The class was interesting and did not require a textbook.
