Really great professor, passionate about what he is teaching. He says you need the textbook but I did good without it. Just pay attention in lecture and take good notes. He has a strict phone policy and he WILL call you out if you're on your phone and tell you to leave.
Jeff is a pretty good teacher, in math 2 you dont really learn anything but you dont have to do much either. Hes also pretty funny and tries to keep things interesting
Funny professor who relates lectures to the community! 2 papers, occasional film notes, online midterm and final. Really interesting lectures that are easy to understand and will provide you with a lot of insight. He has some rules about where you can sit to use your laptops and you can't use your phone in class! iClicker used 8 times
Funny guy who really cares about what he's teaching. Lectures are engaging and easy to keep up with. A lot of work in the class (papers, exams, film analysis, good amount of reading) but overall interesting. leaves you with a new perspective. DON'T USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS or you will regret your existence (but other than that he's a cool guy!)
Hoelle was a bit of a jerk. He mocked students in class and he was really inconsiderate of students who had differing opinions from him. He even made my friend cry because of a harsh reply to an email she sent him. Talks too much about his own research. He definitely has his funny moments, but they don't compensate. iClicker, readings matter.
Funny lectures, lots of interactive iClicker questions. Has 4 small quizzes (some online and some in class) and an optional final at the end. One research paper that's pretty easy. Gives prizes.
Prof Hoelle is great, puts the already interesting coursework into easily understandable terms and has fun while doing it. Four small "quizzes" instead of midterms, and an optional final at the end. The project is easy (you can just BS all the "data" from people you interview etc.), if you actually do it legit you'll probably get a better grade.
Prof. Hoelle is very awkwardly humorous. BTW if you use cell phones during class time, you'll lose your existence in the universe.
So freaking hilarious. I loved lecture! Also material was super interesting and eye opening. A great introductory anthropology class! Also its an easy A. 10/10 would recommend
Hoelle was a fun prof, he spends a lot of the lecture time talking about himself and those stories are not quizzed. Do NOT use your phone during lecture and always sit in the back 4 rows or front 3 rows when you are typing notes on your phone. He has a funny sense of humor and the last few lectures are lot of fun. Not a super easy GE but fun.
Hoelle was super funny and awkward, but in a very good way. He loves what he teaches and shares about relevant outside experiences, research, and travels that relate to the content in the course. Super funny, tests are a breeze if you pay attention and read. Overall just a really chill and cool guy.
Hoelle is definitely one of my favorite professors! He's so funny and very well informed on what he's teaching. He did work in Brazil so he knows from a personal perceptive on what he's lecturing
Really cool professor, definitely recommend if you're taking this as a GE and you want an easy class. He's funny and interacts with the audience. DON'T go on your phone during lecture. Kinda weird when it comes to taking notes on your laptop. Easy going guy, showed pics from when he was a teenager doing Peace Corps and he was lowkey hot.
Really enjoyed going to lecture, Hoelle rocks! Take this class if you have the chance.
Funny professor. Not too hard of a GE
I loved Jeffrey. This is a class that I actually looked forward to going to. Its an easy GE and its almost always an interesting and humorous lecture. Dr. Hoelle has a sort of awkward sense of humor. He's a great professor. And I would absolutely take one of his courses again. He made me rethink my major and consider a career in anthropology!
Great professor! Would definitely take again because he was so awkward and funny which made the lectures more engaging. He gave out some pretty crazy prizes to his students (one got a bootleg PlayStation from Guatemala) because he really likes seeing his students laugh. Quizzes were fair and the research project is completely doable. Does iClicker.
This class is an easy A and an even easier B. No midterm and the final is optional, he gives out four "quarterly" exams instead. There are 2 papers which are fair. iClicker is used for participation points during lecture and do NOT let him catch you on your phone or you can say bye to 20% of your grade. He made lectures funny and enjoyable.
Funny, engaging lecture. Interesting material about humans as a whole. There is a paper/project to do that you should not procrastinate on because you need interviews & stuff. I wish I went to office hours because he's funny. Don't use your phone! you will watch "what does the fox say" in class.
Take this class. You can tell that he loves the topic that he is teaching and he tries to make the class as enjoyable as possible. He's kind of awkward funny, which makes it even more funny. If you just read and go to lectures, you'll be fine. There's a research paper and 4 20 questions exams but its pretty easy.
Class worth taking! Hoelle is invested and interesting and keeps lectures interactive and easy going. Come to class, pay attention, do the reading, you'll pass!
I loved his teaching style. He made class very interesting and worth attending. I didn't read much and I got a B. Just pay attention in class. Warning- strict phone policy.
I was taking this class for a GE and didn't expect much out of the class, but by the end of the class, I was very much interested in anthropology. Though it isn't my major, I would love to learn more about it, and it gives people a sense of awareness of other cultures around the world.
Great professor, he clearly cares for his students and is willing to go above and beyond for them if they show interest! His lectures are very entertaining it is not to difficult to pay attention because the subjects are very interesting!
