Claire was my linear algebra TA at Caltech while my father had cancer. She was unusually kind, and invited me to dinner, and let me turn in my problem sets several weeks late. Claire is a really good person and I still remember her kindness even though it's been about seven years.

Levaillant is highly theoretical in her teaching and emphasizes understanding of the core principles of calculus over rote computation. While her exams may seem difficult, her grading is very lenient. She explicitly stated that she teaches to the best students in the class. If you are that kind of person, her class is very rewarding and insightful.

Very confusing to understand. She knows this and compensates with incredibly lenient grading, which doesn't help you if you want to learn calc but does if you want an easy A. Section is incredibly helpful and pretty much reteaches the class you can understand a little bit better. Midterms and Finals are also open note.

Professor Levaillant is very supportive and always helpful. The class is challenging, because she can make the material more difficult than it is. However, she provides lecture notes and is always willing to help you. She is generous in grading as well. As long as you attend class and pay attention to her notes and section, you'll do great.

Professor Levaillant is very sweet and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. The class material is difficult, considering it being calculus, but she also teaches unique techniques and concepts. Thus the class can be difficult but keeping an open mind helps. She grades very generously and exams were open note. Go to section and use the book.

She is very smart. But hard to understand at times. She is very lenient with the grading. Overall not a bad teacher. If you have her go to section because that is where you will learn most of the material. Open notes exams. Exams weren't too hard.

Professor Levaillant is very lenient with grading and most students received an A or an A+. The material and lecture structures are difficult to understand at times but the new and difficult material challenges you to actually think. The midterm was easy and the final was difficult but curved. Make sure to do all homework and go to section!

Not a good teacher but an easy A

You will be extremely confused and lectures do not help. She was teaching material from 6A towards the end of the quarter. I only answered 1/5 questions on the final but still ended up with an A+. The class is extremely curved. You won't learn much, but you will most likely get a good grade.

Worst professor I've ever had. I can tell she's a very intelligent person, but she isn't a I stopped going to lecture and relied on CLAS and section to learn the materials. Midterm was easy but final was insanely difficult and I thought I didn't do very well (b/c I missed a whole question on the 6 question final) but I got an A in the class. O_O

She's hard to understand at times, but she's really nice and supportive. Honestly, if you read the textbook, it helps for the lecture you don't understand. Take her!

I took Calc in high school, but lecture was still hard for me to understand. Professor Levaillant is intelligent and knows what she is saying, but because she is from France, her teaching style is different. However, make use of office hours and ask questions during class! She is very kind and always willing to help!

I came into this class with a 5 on the AP Calc test, plus I'm a math major. I maybe learned one thing all year and that was integration by parts, and maybe little bits of trig sub and other integration techniques but nothing really after october. I still got an A in the class but I hardy learned anything. Terrible teacher, easy class

Before taking this course, I was pretty worried of the teacher especially reading RateMyProfessor reviews. Still, I literally went to CLAS and lecture for the first 2 weeks and then stopped. Lecture cause it sucked, CLAS cause I was lazy. Got a 40/60 on the first midterm and no idea what on the final, but I got an A overall :). (Took AP Calc in hs)

Extremely smart professor ,props for women in mathematics, but there is clearly a language barrier. She is understanding of this fact, so as long as you make sure you know how to do the homework, and go to CLAS or office hours, you'll do well in the class.

She's a terrible professor. Don't even bother going to class it's useless just attend the section and do the homework the midterm is not that hard but the final is just impossible. She's a extremely easy grader though so that makes up for her horrible teaching.

You don't learn much in this class. You definitely do not need to go to her lectures because they will leave you nothing but confused. Going to section is important because of the quizzes. Do the homework, easy points. Final will be impossible but at the end she passes everyone. I rarely went to class, struggled on the final and still got an A.

She is very nice and an easy grader, but if you are looking to understand the concepts or know what is going on, don't take this class. She is hard to understand and makes the material much more complicated than it needs to be. The book is very helpful in her class, and definitely go to section, it's the only reason I passed!

Her lectures are very confusing and don't pertain to the tests. CLAS is very helpful for her class. She is an extremely fair grader though because the lowest grade she gave out for my class was a B.

I like math.I'm good at math.I didn't learn a single thing from this professor.I went to lecture, took notes nd at the end i had no idea what in the world i had written down.I'm not saying she is a bad person cuz she seems very nice but she simply can not teach. lack of any structure in class(not even syllabus)makes the class easy just no learning

AVOID. Nice lady, very smart. Perhaps too smart since she CANNOT TEACH. Does not follow the textbook at all, gets confused herself in class. AVOID. She is nice, cute, and helpful, but that's not what gives you the knowledge and a good grade.

very nice lady. Hard to understand because of the language barrier and delves into a lot of theory. If you want to get the most out of the class, attend CLAS and read the book. Really wants the students to get a good grade so don't worry too much. Will take homework into account if one did not do well on exams. Final was fairly easy.
