He is a good professor if you come to class prepared, which is something I realized after finishing Chem 109B. I would rather have him than Bruice because he really is passionate about teaching. Take CLAS and do practice midterms/finals on gauchospace.
I didn't particularly care for chem before. Aue simply made me fall in love with Chemistry. If you are anything like me (have a problem just memorizing something just as a fact and wanna know why things are the way they are) you'll love Aue. Everything I learned in this class will stay with me for a long time
I HATED chemistry and was so afraid to go into O-chem because of all of the negative things I have heard about how hard it is, but Aue made me love O-chem so much! I actually enjoy his lectures because he gives background as to what things are used for in the real world and he is really funny as well. Also, his tests are very straight forward.
Aue is the best, seriously all these negative comments made me submit a rating. Not only are his lectures precise, but cover various topics, some concepts not fully discussed in the book. His online resources give the student an accurate idea of what to expect in exams. It's helpful to read and do some book problems but his exams are straight.
Awesome professor! Although is lectures were sometimes confusing, he really knows what he's talking about and wants his students to do great. Really helpful in office hours and actually listens to concerns with his tests and will give you points back unlike other professors. Basically if you're gonna take ocher, take it with Aue!
Pretty awesome dude. He loves Ochem and loves to teach it. He is pretty demanding and expects you to do a fair amount of work outside of class, at least in the honors section. Be sure to read the book and work lots of problems and you will be fine. The practice exams are very similar to the real ones.
AUE IS THE BEST! he made me love ochem! as a bio major i thought ochem was going to be hell but it def.is not! any1 saying ochem is hard especially Aue is lazy. Aue>Bruice. he really cares about the student and all he wants is to help you pass! tips: LECTURE IS YOUR BIBLE!! & PRACTICE TESTS!! anything else doesnt matter.
Aue is brilliant! Go to lecture to listen to what he has to say and understand main concepts, but read the text book to study for tests. He seems a bit all over the place, at first I thought his tests would be impossible but they are very straight forward if you understand examples from the book. Everyone bashing him is too lazy to apply themselves
I believe the only useful information I got from him was which chapters to study for for the test. His lectures were all over the place and not clear, you're better off reading the book, I wish I stopped attending his class earlier to do that...
Terrible teacher!!! Half the time hes talking about irrelevant bull crap and doesn't even cover everything on his tests in lecture. Leaves it up to you to learn most of the material on your own and offers very minimal help when asked questions. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
ABSOLUTELY HATED AUE. Very unclear, expects you to understand how to get from step to step of a mechanism that even the book doesn't explain.. He makes his own mechanisms up. Only gave 1 midterm and a Final. I luckily passed with a C+ , Goodbye medical school.
I liked his exam style way better than Russak or Bruice b/c he goes more in depth with less (but still quite a bit) of material. Study past exams, make flashcards, use CLAS!! Do those three, read the book(parts he covers) and you will do great.
I love Aue! He is super into organic chemistry and he has basically studied with all the famous people in his field. Definitely HAVE to go to lecture in order to do well on the test. Make flashcards on EVERYTHING and study your butt off and you can get an A. Also, his tests are extremely similar to his real tests.
He is frickin awesome. I didnt like or understand ochem with Bruice, and with Aue I now enjoy it. To do well all you need to do is take down very good notes and memorize the structures and mechanisms that he writes down and emphasizes. FLASH CARDS ARE KEY. got an A.
chem 109B! Go to every lecture, study everything he does in class, dont read the book it will actually hurt you for his course. I got an A and all I did was study his notes! try to understand his methods they will help for future MCAT exam.

so basically, you better study your ass of if you want any chance of passing the class. hard as hell! oh and be prepared to answer why on everything.
He is enthusiastic but crotchety at the same time. You can learn a lot from him as long as you can also learn to think like him, which isn't so bad. Be careful about answering questions in class. He'll put you on the spot! PS: GO TO LECTURRREEEE
he is great! lectures are a little disorganized but what he teaches is whats on the test. he is way better than bruice--whose tests are like 20 pgs long--and she expects you to know EVERYTHING from the book. aue is definitely a kook, but im actually enjoying the class...never thought i would say that about ochem.
The comments below remain accurate. Grades are based entirely on insane tests. Explains what is contributing to stability, but that does not really help you on tests. Does not finish drawing mechanisms that he expects you to know.
There is method to his madness. He knows what he is talking about and once you get use to his style of teaching you'll find that he is one of the best. Does tend to go off on some unrelated but humorous tangents. Don't just memorize what he lectures, you have to understand why things happen to make a good grade...not a class you can cram for.
take bruice if you want to learn more but not in depth and take aue if you want to learn less material but in more depth...tests are just like his practice ones..
Aue is awesome! He doesn't waste time, gets right down to work and expects you to actually PROBLEM SOLVE, which is what chemistry is all about. Plus he rocks the mocassins
At first he seems to be the worst teacher ever, but once you figure out what he expects you to study outside of the class it isn't that bad. Definitely need to study and keep up on the material or else on the test you will be screwed
