Most of these reviews are either jokes or extremely sarcastic. Luke is great...if you actually care about learning. Most tests are near impossible, and his lectures are difficult to follow. BUT, if you are willing to watch the lectures a second time...you do really start seeing the world of ECE differently. Don't be scared to go to OH for help.

Ever since I received my grade in Luke's class, he has shown up in my dreams every night. In these dreams he is usually on the phone, telling people to stop pattern matching. Seriously, Luke is so inspirational and ECE 10A has been a life-changing experience. Luke taught us how to think, and to value understanding over memorizing procedures.
This class has changed how I view life, how I approach problems, and it made me realize that I'm actually not bright at all; I'm just good at pattern-matching. You WILL learn a LOT if you take a class with Luke, for example: knowing does not mean understanding, your understandings must be generalized, base your reasoning on mathematical rigor, etc.
Luke is the best person in existence, generally. Ask him to teach you about nodal analysis. Midterm was a joke, four ridiculously easy questions. He loves to talk about putting things in a black box (??) and his favorite phrase is "by DEFINITION". Take all the classes you possibly can with him. Homework problems tend to be very solvable. W prof.
Luke is somewhat of a main character. I rarely think about my other professors, but I think about Luke at least 12-16 times per day. His midterm gave me a heart attack and I wanted to cry after the 2nd question. His OHs are very helpful, but he has trouble teaching during lecture because everyone is too afraid to disclose their ignorance.
Honestly one of the most personable professors I've ever had. His office hours are very informative and fun to go to. He will go over anything as long as you ask him. Just be ready to study and be active in this class to succeed. In the end, he is very reasonable and understands the students.
Fantastic, it is the easiest midterm I have ever been taken. And most of the student should receive an A.
Luke always encourages us to think, so when taking the midterm, I was thinking of switching to CS. Not because it was hard, but becuase the problems were so incredibly trivial, CS is probably more mentally stimulating.
I took this class as a GE and Luke is one of the best professors I've had at UCSB. Exams are welcomed to use electronic devices, though I don't see why anyone would, and the homework is always intuitive and goes over what we've learned in class. As a Fine arts major, I don't see why people are complaining about this class, it was a free gpa boost.
This is an amazing lecturer, if you want to imporve your gpa, just take his courses. His lecture is really interesting and well-organized. You can ask him questions any time during the lecture and it's easy to follow him.
Amazing!
Best professor I have ever had at UCSB. His lectures are phenomenal and easily understood. His tests are so easy and straightforward. midterm could have been a bit harder, I could do some of the problems in my sleep. His homework is well thought out and painless as well. would take again.
I came to the midterm, and I came out.
The memes are g o o d
Got pretty tired during the midterm exam so I took a fat nap in the lecture hall. I still did well because I could do all the problems in my sleep and they were so trivial that I solved them in less than one second.
Phenomenal teacher. Never in my life has a professor made the exams so understandable to me.
I can do all these problems in my sleep
Very goog
I had to come on here to write this review as a student who has only had Luke for every single one of my ECE classes so far. He is extremely out of touch with the starting knowledge of an ECE student with no prior knowledge/experience with engineering topics. I would avoid taking his classes except oftentimes there isn't much of a choice.
Anyone who gave this man a 5 rating, I hope both sides of your pillow stay warm all night. This class was free as hell, but this professor talks as if you've been creating microprocessors straight out the womb. And yea this class was free, but I have to (sadly, tragically) take his class next quarter and I am scared shitless.
Luke is very polarizing but he likes people like me, who know way more than they're expected to. If you ask a stupid question he will make you look like a complete idiot which is kind of funny.
Luke is an alpha male. He is the embodiment of peak masculinity, grit, and power. Everyone craves Luke's approval... if he knows your name, you have won (at life). The man shows zero emotion besides disgust (for the liberal arts dept), just as all engineers should. His lectures cover circuit analysis, FPGAs, boolean logic, NNs, and much more.
ECE 5 is an intro course and Theogarajan is clearly highly experienced in his field, but man, he needs to slow it down a LOT for the lectures (which, by the way, become more or less optional when you hit the final project 1/2way thru). He would often ask us if we knew a topic, see 10% of the class raise their hands, and assume we all understood it.
