Luke is very polarizing but he likes people like me, who know way more than they're expected to. If you ask a stupid question he will make you look like a complete idiot which is kind of funny.
Luke is an alpha male. He is the embodiment of peak masculinity, grit, and power. Everyone craves Luke's approval... if he knows your name, you have won (at life). The man shows zero emotion besides disgust (for the liberal arts dept), just as all engineers should. His lectures cover circuit analysis, FPGAs, boolean logic, NNs, and much more.
ECE 5 is an intro course and Theogarajan is clearly highly experienced in his field, but man, he needs to slow it down a LOT for the lectures (which, by the way, become more or less optional when you hit the final project 1/2way thru). He would often ask us if we knew a topic, see 10% of the class raise their hands, and assume we all understood it.
He is a great person, Id love to have him as a mentor or something. But his lectures were confusing and unorganized, I feel like I learned nothing. His exams are insanely hard, there is material on them that hes never gone over but the grading is very nice. Labs are also really hard but he offers good advice in office hours so go to those.
Expect to open up an exam or homework assignment and wonder when he ever went covered this material in class.
Best professor ever, clear hand-written notes and simple homework solutions, homework is effortless to complete. Exams are welcomed to use electronic devices.
Luke is the best professor I have ever had, clear hand-written notes provided every class, homework is effortless to complete. Exams are welcomed to use electronic devices. Very recommend to take Luke's class again.
Luke's classes are VERY difficult. The test averages are usually very low. Be prepared to study relentlessly for this class.
After barely getting pass ECE 2A I am currently taking 2B with this influential and formidable man and what can I say? It's tough I'm sure I failed that 1st midterm yet I would still blindly follow Luke into battle!
After having Luke for a quarter and a half now, I can say that he's a very intense guy. He gives us impossible problems since that's what we'd do in real life as engineers. He claims to want to help and really does try, but he reaches a point where he can't grasp why we don't understand. Prepare to fail your midterms and have him ask why next class
Amazing guy! Currently taking ECE 2A and even though I am not doing well I understand that Luke is a great Professor and is willing to help! you just need to ask! He is a great explainer it's just me who doesn't understand :/. May have to take this class again but I will become a computer engineer!!!!!!!!!!! Luke also gives off a powerful vibe.
People from ECE 2C weren't prepared for Luke because they didn't know anything. This is because the ECE 2A professors before him didn't teach. This is why Luke demanded to teach ECE 2A, 2B, 2C. I was doing poorly but I realized it was because I didn't put in the effort. When I applied myself and followed his commandeering lead, I learned so much.
This review is after Midterm 1 of ECE 2A -- Fall 2015. Luke's lectures are golden; he's one of those professors who you look up to on a daily basis. He explains the material very clearly, and the problems in the book supplement that. His tests are hard, but only because they make you think. There's no hard computation, just conceptual recitation.
Toughest exams ever, do not take ECE2A. I repeat, DO NOT TAKE ECE 2A!!!
Best professor in UCSB!!
Read everything below this... now. Now... read everything below this, knowing that they are all sarcastic yet very very very accurate. 250+ hours in lab, hardest tests of my life, averages of 21% and its your fault according to luky luke. good luck. 3 #THEO2K15
If you didn't get an A in Theo's class, you must have slept through the tests. Open, book, calculators allowed, and you can even bring your laptop, but his exams were so easy, you didn't even need any of those things. He even gives review sessions on Fridays if you're struggling, and labs were so breezy and straightforward. #THEO2015
Easiest and funnest ECE class I've taken so far! All tests are open book, open notes, and open laptop so no need to stress, and labs are a breeze, you can usually finish in 2-3 hours max. One of the best classes I've taken at UCSB.
THE BEST PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS. This class was the easiest, and most enjoyable class I've ever taken at UCSB. The lab was cake and you're ALLOWED CALCULATOR AND THE TEXTBOOK DURING THE TEST. Talk about an easy A
What a class. Two very easy As, and lab was SUPER helpful. I will never forget the time I spent with good old Lucky Luke. Highly recommended, easy class!
EASIEST GE CLASS EVER, SPENDING MORE THAN 250 HRS IN THE LAB WAS JUST TOO EFFING FUN!!!!
Cons: Unwilling to help on any assignments. Disorganized. Berates students for asking stupid questions. Unprofessional. No reply to emails. Labs unconnected with lecture. Exams unreasonable. Arbitrary or undisclosed grading method. Indifferent to class structure. Useless friday review sessions. Arrogant. Pros: inventing stuff that helps humanity
Good ol' Lucky Luke, most chill professor ever. Labs are easy and fun. Tests are open note --super easy! Never had to study. Super jokester that often brings the class to tears. I will always remember my time in this class.
Super awesome class, takes care of science AND lab units in one. Great GE course for comm or sociology majors. I thought I would need to know math, but HE LETS YOU USE CALCULATORS ON THE TEST!!! :) The tests are open book and open note, I never even had to study!!!!! :D:D:D:D
