Worst teacher at UCSB not even a really professor, only a guest lecturer trying to get his PHD. unclear lectures completely irrelevant to exam, iclick for attendance. only way to get a good grade is to do the quizzes and workouts in the workbook. do not read the text, it will only confuse you for the exam. final is cumulative and 50% of grade.
easily the worst prof i've ever had at ucsb. he doesn't test on anything he lectures about and still finds a way to make half the class pass out from boredom. don't buy the textbook because it's completely useless, but buy the workbook and do all the problems because that's all he tests on. make sure you go to discussion but not lecture
This class was really easy. All of the test questions are directly from examples he does in class. I didn't even study very hard and got 100% on all the tests. He's a good teacher but he sometimes uses obscure methods to explain things, but I always understood the end result. I would definitely recommend this class.
I hated this class! Lectures are useless! He supposedly gives extra credit for going but they are totally disconnected from the workbook and tests. I studied my butt off for a C. My only advice is go to CLAS and prepare to wanna pull your hair out!
Terrible professor, can't teach what he tests on, and uses slides to explain math. Worst prof ive had at ucsb yet.stay away
like most said stay away from Koch.
This is a college level course and is not a GE where all the info is fed to you. In order to do well in the class you have to study with friends and do problems from the work book. Definitely do the quizzes in the back of the book. I got an A and didn't work terribly hard. RIP Mac Dre
Pretty useless to go to lecture because he wont apply what he teaches. Cant really teach a calc based book from slides. Book was bad, just a waste of time. go to clas, do the quizzes in the back
I don't really understand why everyone is saying the "class is so hard." If you thought the midterms were hard, maybe you are in the wrong major. Lecture explains the theory. Section is for practicing application problems. This is college people, not High School. Do the workbook, especially the quizzes in the back. I got a 97% before any curve.
As a professor, he's useless. Try not to take him if you can. If you can't avoid him be ready to teach yourself. Lectures are useless. Sections are helpful. Book is horrible.
Nice guy. at first material seems way complicated, but after you memorize like 3 graphs and 3 equations and stare at your notes for a few hours..tests arent that bad. 1 easy paper at the end. tests are pretty short and not too hard.
Horrible teacher. If you want to do well study the multiple choice problems in the back of the work book. I got an A, but I worked my but off for it.
Avoid this teacher. Tests have nothing to do with lectures. Lectures and lecture notes are disjointed and difficult to understand. Tests are extremely difficult. Class average for tests was failing. Workbook used is worthless - Amazon.com reviews of it: 1 Star! Don't know your grade in class until the very end. Doesn't get any worse than this!AVOID
Most boring teacher I've ever had in my life, talks in a monotone. Doesn't know how to teach... the lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Terribly hard, the class average for the midterm was a 45%. AVOID KOCH AT ALL COSTS!
Very easy class if you understand economic principles. Sometimes he goes too fast or focuses on the extreme general case leaving you with a what if feeling. However he's mostly available in office hours and is helpful during them.
