I loved taking this class. Not only was the material interesting, but the passion Professor Miller-Young has makes it even more enjoyable to learn about. Although attendance was not mandatory, I'd still attend because she elaborates way more than what's on the slides, and she is so funny and often goes on tangents and tells stories.
Always looked forward to going to her lectures even if they weren't mandatory. She is hilarious but very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. Took her for both Femst 150 and 60. Classes are easy, just take-home projects and papers, no in-person exams. She addresses relevant issues and cares about the well-being of her students.
one of my fav classes ever!! great professor, very engaging during lecture and always did her best to make everyone feel hopeful during these rough times. the course is not hard if you keep up with the readings, and consists of 2 midterms (research project and zine/video) and 1 final (2 short essay and 1 long essay question). highly recommend
One of my favorite professors this year!! Miller-Young is very knowledgeable and engaging during lectures, always came to class with the best energy and a smile, and the class was not difficult! 2 midterms-- a research paper and zine/video project and 1 final consisting of 2 short and 1 long essay questions, and opportunities for extra credit.
I loved Dr. Miller-Young! She is obviously so passionate about her work and it comes through. We had three papers and TA's were very accessible for help making this class fairly easy. Sections usually went over readings and topics discussed in class so I recommend doing the readings or at least skimming.
This class was very easy. 1 research paper, 1 creative project, a final, and section attendance go toward grade and easy to get high grades in all of these. Lots of readings but i barely did them. Very liberal class obvi, as an independent there was some material that were not particularly favorable but they did contribute to the class. shes great!
She is the icon, inspiration, and driving force behind the feminist studies department. while not required, her lectures feel like ted talks and really get you motivated with the material
The funniest lecturer on campus by far, her lectures are so entertaining and she gives the funniest anecdotes. The class is very progressive but she makes the topics seem very comfortable. I recommend everyone take this class to learn about sexual relations in society. Miller-Young is so animated, Love!
I love this professor! She is hilarious and lecture was so entertaining. I only did about half the readings for the class and got an A. If you go to lecture you don't really have to read. Midterm and final were take home and pretty easy.
Very sweet! You can tell she cares about what she's teaching. There is a lot of reading, I read around half of it all and still got an A. You're basically only graded on section attendance and the few writing assignments she gives.
easy course as long as you take notes, 1 midterm and 1 final, both very easy and taken from home. one oral history project, time consuming but not bad. overall very welcoming environment and my favorite professor at ucsb so far.
You do the readings and work hard on exams and paper and you will do good. Classes are in lecture format, so it was boring. Discussions are okay but more work. In class, she said a scholar who she didn't agree with her was dumb. Disrespectful.
Fun class and fun lectures. Interesting topics. There were a few writing assignments like papers or projects. A few quizzes, but two of them got canceled for our quarter. There are a lot of readings, but I got by only reading the necessary ones for assignments. Interesting easy and chill class.
TAKE THIS COURSE! u will look forward to every single lecture. didn't even mind the 50 pgs worth of weekly readings because i genuinely loved the topics. i will say don't procrastinate the essays i ended up writing a 13 page essay the day before it was due and i stayed up until like 5am doing it. section attendance is graded
Due to the TA strike, my time in this class was very limited, but by far it's the best class I've taken at UCSB. Many readings were assigned but I found them to be engaging, informative, and genuinely interesting. Attendance is mandatory in the section but TAs are very understanding. Overall, I would take this course again if I could.
This class was one of the pre-requisites for the FEMST minor, I was excited about the content of the class but the whole course felt disorganized. While the content was interesting and she clearly cared a lot about the topic and students, in her lectures she would go off on irrelevant tangents. Otherwise, she was very engaging and knowledgable.
FEMST150 was just okay. I was expecting a lot more.
Course content was very interesting. It is clear that she and all the TAs are very enthusiastic about the material. There are weekly forums that you need to post and reply to. 70% of the grade was from the creative project and the final research paper. Overall a good class and I would take Miller-Young again.
Lectures were pre-recorded and quite long but only once a week. Sometimes she'd seemed too busy to teach, but was still very passionate about the content. Lots of readings! Had weekly responses that were based on reading, very short though. There is a midterm, oral history project, and final, but the final was canceled. Graded quite easily.
One of my favorite classes and professors I've ever had. She is so sweet and understanding, and is very accommodating for online school. You can tell she is genuinely passionate about the subject, and it's reflected in her lectures. The TAs grade leniently and a lot of your grade is based on participation, midterm/final, and oral history project.
I love Professor Miller-Young so much! Not only has she been extremely accommodating amidst the pandemic, but she's just a lovely person to talk to outside of class. She's a really cool woman who's also done some incredible projects outside of UCSB. Would highly recommend any of her classes!
Professor Miller-Young is very knowledgeable and passionate about this subject. She is also exceedingly kind, helpful, and smart. Her office hours are actually helpful, especially for projects. The class itself is super informative and helped me make sense of the world we have today. This is one of my favorite classes I ever took at UCSB.
Professor Mireille is so sweet and caring. She made class incredibly interesting with the readings and guest speakers at lecture. 6 quizzes based on the reader, one long essay and one creative project. The class and material is very leftist but offers a valuable perspective on highly politicized issues
genuine and passionate and intelligent. Do the ready and you get an A. DOn't take this class if you aren't willing to put in the work or if u aren't upset with what is going on in the world.
